At the Red/Blue game, there was a DB wearing #34 who made a few plays, and I didn't know who he was. Yesterday I found the roster they gave out at that game, and it says he's Brandon Jones, a 5-10, 170-pound freshman from Arlington (Bowie HS) who I gather spent the fall semester at Highlands JC, wherever that is.
Anyone know anything about him? Is he a real player or just an extra body?
And I'm confused: Bobby Chase spent the fall at Blinn JC, and he's listed as a sophomore. Jones spent the fall at Highlands JC, and he's listed as a freshman. Does that mean he sat out the football season?

If he's the same guy I think he is, he was recruited out of Bowie by some Big 12 schools, including Kansas State and Mizzou. He was thought to be a star-in-waiting when he was in high school (unless I have him mixed up with someone else.)

Highland JC is in Northeast Kansas, and has turned out a number of serviceable D-1 athletes. It's a common destination for non-qualifiers, along with the other likely suspects in KS (e.g. Garden City etc.)

If he's that much of a hot commodity, how did we end up with him?

Any thoughts on how he might fit into the CB rotation? I assume Akinyemi and Humphrey are the starters. And I gather that McGee likely is the nickel back, with help from other 2003 reserves and a couple of freshmen, probably Lindley (if the rumors are true about just how talented that guy is). Or is this Jones guy good enough -- and do we have enough depth -- that we can now redshirt all of the freshman CBs?

Anthony Barnett's somewhere in the mix, too.

Lost KG after last year, and lost Rutledge this year. This guy could be real valuable, if he's ready to go. Can't have too many play-making CBs.
