Matt StaffordRivals indicates that the 6'4" Quarterback from Highland Park has already received offers from SMU and Florida. Florida State, Iowa, Texas, and UCLA are other college choices of his. A potential problem could be that both his parents went to Florida State.
Yeah, that is a problem. But on the plus side, isn't he supposed to be great friends with Coach Bennett's son? I don't know that that will mean we get him, but it can't hurt.
Plus, with the likes of Grant Eidson, Charlie Berry, Brent Karrington, Alexander Webb, Ryan Wolcott, et al, hopefully SMU is now viewed as a very desirable place for HP kids to go. This Stafford guy certainly gets a lot of hype, so there must be some fire behind all the smoke.
Bob Stoops says he will be the number one QB in the nation by the time he finishes his senior season in 2005.
I am not sure this is saying much but I think Stafford could have started for us last year (prior to when Phillips started playing). He is real good and I hope we have a shot at him. If I am doing the math correctly, Phillips would be senior for Stafford's freshman year so the timing could work well. We are starting to get more help from the HP coaches and he have any sort of success, we could get some internal help as well. Randy Allen is an SMU grad.
I heard about Stafford last year but never thought he would consider us. From what I was told, he's an absolute stud. Any QB that has an offer from Florida in his sophomore year is the real deal. Hey, at least were battling the smalltime boys for his services (Florida and Florida St.)
![]() I know we have people on this board in tight with the HP community. Is this legit?
I heard from GoRedGoBlue that we're stacked at QB so we probably won't go after him. Plus, if he's been this good for the last two year he might have an attitude. We don't like players with attitudes.
NOW your makin crap up, Damone.
Foran was going to be offered a scholarship at SMU, but NOT to play QB. You have a crush on him and still think he is good enough to play QB. What if we offer Foran a scholarship, a known non-Div1A QB, and that keeps us from signing top HS QBs?
Re:
No I didn't. Your making that up, GoStangs... Everyone, he is a liar!!
Where did Coach Stoops say Stafford would be the #1 QB in the country? I find that a little odd, since I believe it's illegal (per NCAA rules) for a college coach to comment publicly on a high school player before he signs a national letter-of-intent.
Look GRGB I was on vacation last time you ran this Bill Foran stuff past this board so I didn't bother to comment-but you are so full of crap that its comical. SMU recruited Foran before his senior year as a non-QB prospect because he had never played significant minutes at the position in High School before his senior season. Alexander Webb was the starting QB. Then Foran had one of the best senior years in the country his senior year and eliminated SMU from consideration within weeks of having success at QB. SMU didn't "offer" Foran at QB because he wasn't interested in going to SMU when he plenty of better opportunities. His Top choices-all of which offered well into his senior year at HP were Illinois, Purdue, Ga Tech and Virgina Tech among others. Illinois, Ga Tech and Purdue all reportedly specifically offered as a QB. He said he was interesting in going to Virgina Tech because of the success they had with Donavan McNabb(sic-obviously he meant Michael Vick). Sounds like he planned on playing QB at Virgina Tech too. You could combine the other six HP recruits SMU has on its roster together and combined they didn't get a single offer better than the worst team among his favoritess. In fact, with the exception of POSSIBLY Karrington I'd be surprised if they received any Division 1A offers besides SMU. SMU would have taken Foran in a second if he was interested in SMU.
For what it's worth (and it may be worth nothing), I have heard repeatedly that Stafford and Sam Bennett are very good friends.
