No distruptions. No distractions to the team, because they are all excellent players.
DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that Bill Foran is anything like this, I am just countering the above posted few comments. From what I heard, Mr. Foran is a very nice, intelligent young man. I only heard that he was less than humble during his recruiting process.
The main point is, what position would he play at SMU to afford a scholarship? RB? We all know that he isn't going to play QB at SMU, which is what HE wants to play.
Therefore, I doubt he will come to SMU, and I doubt there is a position that he makes us better at.
First of all, I said as long as he doesn't get in any trouble so take your Moss, Sprewell, and Henderson examples away. Maybe you need to read what is posted before replying.
Second, many successful athletes have attitudes. Often times, that is what makes them great. So he was less than humble during his recruiting process? Who cares. Humble him on the field if he isn't already humbled because he's having to transfer.
Third, what do you have against this guy. We act like we're loaded at QB and RB. I agree there is talent, but where have you guys been the last two years? We won zero games last year. We're not loaded anywhere. Especially since most of those guys haven't played a single down, and you act like we're stacked.
If the guy can play QB or RB, great, he beat someone out. I'm all for adding as many athletes to this team as possible. If he's talented, we'll find a spot. WR, S, maybe he can be a special teams ace. We're in no position to turn away FOOTBALL players.

In addition - you said we would not take him, not because we are too deep at QB and RB, but because he did not treat us right during recruiting - which just comes off as silly after an 0-fer season. If our skin is that thin (and it is not) we are in deep trouble.

He has no position here (5th or 6th QB? 5th RB?) AND he had an attitude at the time.
Ipso facto, he won't be coming to SMU

So he's a worse quarterback than Phillips and 4 to 5 guys who have never played a down of D-1 college ball??????? Is that what you're telling me?
And he's a worse RB that 5 of our guys?
I didn't know we were that good. News to me. And to think I was worried about this season
Purdue must really suck. Oh wait, they don't. They're a top 10-20 program. But, seriously, we don't want anyone they would've offered. We're loaded as is.
What did this guy do to you personally that you hold such a grudge?

Damone,
Why are you in love with this guy? YES, he is worse than PHILLIPS and the two JUCOs at QB. Not my opinion, but BENNETT's and TILLER's.
BENNETT wouldn't have him here as a QB, so he went to PURDUE because they LIED to him that he could be a QB.
What makes you think after BENNETT already decided, when he was recruiting him, that he wasn't good enough to play QB in Div1A -- that Foran, all of a sudden, because he has been demoted to RB at Purdue and wants to quit the team, that he is suddenly GOOD ENOUGH to beat out our QBs? We have 4 valid QBs for the near future, and signing him may hurt us signing NEW HS QBs that are better if we made him a QB - and we just got another transfer QB with WEBB.
And now that he has been demoted to RB, what makes you think that he can beat out OUR RBs that were all State Area District ALL-TEAM RBs that played RB in HS while Foran played QB in HS?
Richuel Massey - wanted by UTex
Demyron Martin - 4A (almost?) state champ, went DEEP in the playoffs, 6'3" 225lbs runs a 4.4
...plus the 3 or 4 lighter weight scat backs that were all-athletes at their HS's that are all around 5'11" 190lbs and run 4.3s?
Huh?
Now, consider that BENNETT has already decided, and that thePurdue coaches have ALREADY DECIDEd that Foran is NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY DIV1A QB, what position would you have him play here?
TE? We are already loaded for TE, and he is tiny to play TE. We only need 3 or 4 guys (much less another unproven one).
WR? Not fast enough, didn't play in HS, we need yet another experiment?
That is my point.
Maybe Bennett will offer him a scholarship because he is a good athlete, but we already got enough 'athletes' that aren't pure position players (tweeners!).
The best I can see is him turning into a safety if he can cover and tackle - again, WHO KNOWS if he can.
If he wants to play QB, his best bet is to go to RICE.
This is NOT inside information, just OBVIOUS, reasonable speculation. He may come here in the end, I don't know, but it doesn't make much sense.

Do you how many great college players played QB in high school only to switch to another position in college? Its pretty common for the best athlete on a high school team to play QB so he can touch the ball every play.
Take Anquan Boldin at Florida St. He played QB in high school and came to FSU to play QB. Didn't work out so he moved to WR. FSU had many guys that were, not all-state, but all-american WR's in high school(while he was playing QB in HS), but he beat them out. Why? Because the kid was an athlete and you can always find a position for an athlete.
I really can't believe that you think that we're loaded at any position. You must root for a different team than I do.

Look Damone, when everybody talks bad about you, and a lot of people do, I always say, "you just don't know Damone."
Well, I am tired of sticking up for you. You fail to understand that he is transfering BECAUSE he wants to play QB. Purdue already did the BAIT AND SWITCH on him, and he is looking to go elsewhere.
Bringing arguments into our discussion, though tangently related, are in fact irrelevant. I understand, and you surely will agree that any sane person knows this, I understand that many players come in at one position only to change to another...the GREAT Jerry Ball comes to mind, a recruited FB that played NOSETACKLE for 13+ years in the NFL.
He is NOT going to play QB at SMU. PERIOD. Therefore, he is not going to come to SMU (because he WANTS to play QB).
Now, when people tell me, "hey that Damon guy, he's an idiot", I will still stick up for you. But from now on, things between us just won't be the same.

And another thing, I in no way mean to disrespect Bill Foran the athlete or Bill Foran the person.
I am simply showing a few valid reasons that would suggest that he will not be a Mustang, that is all.
You have shown me many reasons why he "SHOULD" be a Mustang, but you have not shown me any reasons why my VALID reasons that he "WON'T BE" are false.

Your use of the word "LIED" is pathetic. Foran was told that he would get his shot at QB at Purdue. If that did not work out, then the Purdue coaches would switch him to a position where he could get on the field faster.

Ok, you got me. LIED is an awefully HARSH word. Please note that is was just a simple way of saying 'opportunity to compete' since we had hashed this out earlier in these posts...so I used shorthand - 'lied'.
I suppose PURDUE offered Foran an 'opportunity to compete' at QB...that would be the CORRECT term, you would be correct.
Now, it depends on how sincere this opportunity would be, wouldn't you think? (Wait a second, are you Joe Tiller?...are you here to tell everyone that your offer to compete was sincere, and that you just now learned, after BF sitting out his RS year that he wasn't 'the man' anymore?)
I mean, if that's all it took was a simple 'opportunity' to compete, I guess then he didn't lie...if that's all it took to sign this Top100 player out of Texas was to offer him an 'opportunity'....yeah.
Unless the Purdue coach 'knew' that more than probably he had no chance of making it at QB at Purdue, but by making a simple 'offering' to Foran would get him to sign with Purdue...then I suppose you could term the offer as a 'lie'.
Let's examine some evidence:
1) was he offered a chance to compete at any other school? If the answer is no, then perhaps other coaches have the same opinion as Joe Tiller does today (that he won't be playing QB at Div1a).
Let's see, BF has 4 years of eligibility left, and Joe Tiller is already making the case that he won't be playing QB in any of the next 4 years by...
2) moving him to RB.
And he quit. Now, tell me, why did he quit the team?
He was given his chance to compete, and he didn't make it. Sounds like a deal gone south to me. Again, I don't know, he may have personal reasons to leave Purdue.
3) He was recruited by most major sources as an "ATHLETE" not QB.
Hmm...
Nah, you're probably right. Coaches would never 'exaggerate' a player's 'opportunity to compete' just to sign a top athlete, would they?
I mean, signing the #58 Athlete in the Nation wouldn't be that big of a deal, would it? Enough to offer an 18year old HS Senior an 'opportunity to compete' when no one else would...
DISCLAIMER: Maybe BF just wants to come home, I dunno. I am not questioning him, just this ludicrous talk of him playing QB at SMU. And, I am not speaking for SMU, or other SMU alums, just me.
So, if he REALLY wants to come to SMU, then I welcome him.
I really do.
I am just laying out the cards as they are, that he won't be starting at QB in 2 years at SMU after he sits out, and he probably won't be playing RB either. Can he catch? Can he tackle? I dunno. He played QB in HS.
2004: Moved from quarterback to running back during spring season.
2003: Did not play.

This is the heated topic of debate on this board? What sunshine. Man do I miss Mustangmaniacs. The original one, before they screwed up by switching software.

Yeah, I tried to start a thread about which sororities were the hottest and which frat would have the best rush to stir things up during a slow period and got loudly boo'd on this board. So, I haven't tried since. BTW which is the hottest sorority?
