Speaking of Houston's Kevin Sumlin

Apparently, Minnesota is targeting him as a candidate for its vacancy. He was an assistant up there not too terribly long ago. I think he was there before he came to Oklahoma.

Other names the U is supposedly looking at:

*Connecticut's Randy Edsall -- solid career there
*Stanford's Jim Harbaugh (the name I'm intrigued with but I betcha he waits to see what happens at Michigan)
* Georgia's Mark Richt -- Suprised when I heard that
* Philip Fulmer -- Too old? But he can recruit the south.

They have made it clear they want a coach with a proven track record and they have the $$ to go get him. The $$ target is $1.5-2.0.

It should be interesting to hear all the talk when I go up there for Minnesota-Ohio State.

Leach was mentioned for that job also.

The other names:

Richt: Isn't going to leave Georgia unless he is forced out
Harbaugh: Won't go to Minnesota over Stanford unless there is a dump truck filled with $100 bills backed up to his house. He is getting the best recruiting classes Stanford has had in years.
Edsall: This guy has done more with less talent than any other coach in FBS. He started that program in the FBS. I don't see him leaving unless the $$$s are really, really awe inspiring.
Fulmer: That would be interesting, but it would be a tough sell to get kids to leave the deep south to go to a place where July 15th is a nice day for summer.

All of your points on the other candidates are valid.

Again, the U appears to pretty serious about backing up the truck if that's what it takes to get a Harbaugh or Edsall. Other coaches have shoved off with big recruiting classes coming in.

We'll see. I just saw this kicked around in one of the Minnesota circles. With a new stadium and the failure Brewster was, I think there is the incentive to make the serious push.

Also, their motivation is that with Nebraska coming on board, they don't want to be the cannon fodder. Plus, people are pissed off on how far they have slid behind Iowa and Wisconsin.

Kinda like how pissed off how much we had slid behind TCU until we decided we were done with that scene.

I have thought Harbaugh would end up at Michigan, but now I am not so sure. He has a good thing going at Stanford, I understand the attachment to Michigan, but why go back and deal with that mess. I think he will eventually end up at a big name program and it will not be Michigan. Of course he could stay right where he is.

There's no question Harbaugh is a rising star. He is an attractive candidate. It would just depend on how much he wants to get back into the Big 10 and where he wants to land.

Can't think of it, but we have seen where other hot alums were considered for their alma mater's job. But the political forces just made it unreasonable for them to return.

Should be fun a process. I just hope Joel Maturi doesn't F it up.

Richt is a candidate I'll bet because his situation at UGA is similar to Tubby's situation was at Kentucky. i.e., he's about to get fired anyway

That would be a pay cut for Richt. Harbaugh could do better. That's in Edsall's and Sumlin's price range for a promotion/next step. Fulmer doesn't seem like a good fit.

Sumlin would appear to be a great candidate to move up to a BSC school.
