First of all, congratulations to Copeland for signing men's soccer coach Schellas Hyndman to a long-term deal. The man is the best coach in America, and should be nowhere but SMU.

Steve David wrote in the Morning Line this morning that the semi-public interviewing of Mike Gottfried sounds like a Copeland plant, designed simply to throw us all off the scent of the candidates he's really pursuing. I agree. I don't think there's any chance that Gottfried will end up here. Sounds like perhaps a friendship arrangement, kind of like when Cavan flirted with Ole Miss and scored a contract extension from SMU instead. I wonder if Gottfried and Copeland have been friends a long time or something.

Right on - twice. Hyndman is the best coach SMU has in any sport. And I bet Copeland has no more interest in Gottfied than we do.
