Conference Title; Are you kidding me?

Postby ponyfan08 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 8:39 pm

Please do not talk about winning a conference title. We got our [deleted] kicked today. The Houston offense ran through the D like saltwater through a widow woman. I guess we can expect a fumble and an interception per game from Padron. We had a chance to distance ourselves today and didn’t do it. I’m just looking for 2 more wins to be bowl eligible. What a joke!

True, making the conference title game is still a possibility but we don't stand a chance against ECU, USM or UCF.

The way we played today even two more wins might be difficult. :(

I think some of us thought we were better than we actually are. We don't have that much team speed or depth.

I watched this game and quite honestly Houston has too much team speed for us. With our top defensive backs out, we just don't have the capability of covering the Houston receivers. Add this to the fact that the young quarterback from Houston did not make many mistakes running the offense. He made his throws accurately, on time (release under 4 seconds), and this opened up the running game. Exactly the way we are supposed to run our offense. I am convinced that with additional speed at receiver, Padron pulls the trigger much quicker and is quite a bit more successful. We are still on track to make a bowl and this would be an outstanding result for year three in the Jones era. So, keep fighting Mustangs. We match up well with Tulane next week. Go kick some butt!!

Good points Choir. I guess Rice more than matched their speed?

Against Rice it was Piland's second start and as you v=can tell he is getting better each week. He has zero INT's this week.

Did not watch the Houston - Rice game. But you make a good point. Houston was ready to play today and we were not. Does not change my assessment that we do not match up well with this team. No explaining why we can manhandle the Navy offense and Notre Dame can't handle them. Football at times can be mental as well as physical. Pretty sure the physical was uneven tonight. Maybe the mental too!

From what I could see Bennie played well in Sterling's absence.

Watching the game, you should have noticed Houston's receivers catching 3-5 yard passes almost all night and then breaking tackles. Perhaps we should not have played our corners back 7-8 yard and then tried to swipe tackle them.
