I wanted to post this for awhile but never got around to doing the research so don't take the timing as piling on JJ after today's disappointment...extremely pleased he is our HC, do not think we lost today because of his coaching.
That said, my biggest disappointment so far has been JJ's inability to recruit WRs, which I took for granted given his RnS reputation.
I count 23 players JJ has signed or committed to us from 2008 until today. A majority of these players had no other offers per Rivals. Those who did had offers from schools such as Sam Houston St, LA Monroe, Northwestern State, Bowling Green, Jackson St and South Alabama.
Here is a comparison of WR performance between PB and JJ recruited players since JJ's arrival at the Hilltop.
Receptions: PB players 579 / Darius Johnson 61 / JJ's other recruits 5
Yards: PB players 7,836 / Darius Johnson 599 / JJ's other recruits 29
TDs: PB players 63 / Darius Johnson 6 / JJ's other recruits 0
* for the record, Cole Beasley was recruited by PB
Only 3 players with BCS offers
Darius Johnson - Boston College
Kyle Guinyard - Arizona, Colorado and Kansas
Jeremy Johnson - Baylor
No one from this current class has a BCS offer.
Very frustrating and the main reason, IMO, the RnS has not taken off as I expected it would.

JJ is real stubborn when it comes to recruiting receivers and QB's. He feels that with his great offense, top notch receivers and QB's recuits should be lining up at the door to his office for a chance to play in it.
JJ's put 3 Hawaii receivers in the NFL so far, Lelie, Owens and Bess. Both Lelie and Owens were walk-ons and Bess was not heavily recruited. Lelie was not recruited by JJ but was a left over from a previous coach.
I guess he watched "field of dreams' one to many times. If you build it, they will come!

Didn't he get Bess from jail? We can't do that stuff over here.

Bump.
Not much has changed since I posted this 2 years ago other than my opinion of JJ.
He has proven beyond a doubt that he is incapable of coaching up 'sub-par' players. For us to be successful under JJ we need better talent and he is simply too lazy and set in his ways to put in the effort necessary.

Nice bump, so true. AR and ES were both Bennett's. WRs should be that quality.
