SMU - A$M Football Series?

Postby PonySoprano » Wed Jun 02, 2004 9:15 am

From today's DMN:

Mustangs, Aggies talk about football schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK – Discussions have started between SMU and Texas A&M about playing each other in football for the 2005 season, and possibly three of the next four seasons. A&M has an open date for 2005. SMU has no open dates but is looking to move Oklahoma State off its schedule.

Not a big suprise, as I have been hearing talk for some time about us trying to schedule the Ags, but I guess its now out in the open.

That would be great if we could get A$M up to Ford in 2005. We've got a couple of scores to settle with those bastards: the 1994 tie at the Alamodome, and the 1995 loss at Kyle Field when they won on a TD in the last minute.

Two words any SMU fan hates to hear: Albert Connell. I hope the series with the Ags gets going again. I think we have played our last game against the Longhorns, but always thought the Aggies would return to Dallas at some point. They cant let OU and Texas have all the media hype in Dallas.

Can you imagine the gameday atmosphere at Ford when the Aggies come to town? THAT's what I'm talking about!

That would be a great game day atmosphere at Ford - we should make their band sit in the grass in the horseshoe (after we have just thrown out some fertilizer).

What a great turn of events. If this comes to pass, we must give some credit to Coach Bennett whose Aggie roots have no doubt helped this process. We will also have to thank the A$M administration for firing RC because he said he'd never play us or any other former SWC, non-Big 12 team again. RC preferred playing McNeese St.

If we schedule A&M and possibly host the CUSA Championship Game in Dallas, then let's commit to enclose the horseshoe at Ford right now. We need to have a facility that permits us to schedule games that will draw more than 40K.

Playing SMU is not a whole lot different than playing McNeest St. except that at least we will count as a Div 1 victory.

PLEASE WAKE UP ADMINISTRATION AND HELP OUR PROGRAM COMPETE WITH OTHER DIV 1 TEAMS!!!!

Glad to have the ags on the schedule - when are we going to get some easy wins also scheduled - I have seen all the pummelings I need to see, thank you. Can't believe I agree with Psnob, but I am tired of renting everyone elses fans - we don't get our own until we start winning - and we start winning when we schedule better - we need to take a page out of TCU's book - line up the patsies and claim you are great. Better then proving we are not.

So you wanna schedule some patsies.....well lets see, we could schedule UTEP they were 2-11 last year, or there is always San Jose, they were 3-8 last year.javascript:emoticon('')

I would rather play aTm and Texas Tech in a great atmosphere and maybe win like we did in our last home game vs Tech then play a 2-11 utep in a bad atmosphere and maybe win.....which we didn't.

But I am hopeless when it comes to SMU sports.....I always think this could be the year we come back.....

hey dawg - in our last home game against Tech, we looked pretty good - but lost. An L is an L a the end of the year. All I know is that people who did not go to SMU would be our fans in a winning program (like the Miami draws form their area and USC draws from theirs) - as it is now they ask me at the ned of Sept why I still acre about the season - I think it is getting much better also - I just think we would build our own fans if we take a year or two and play down a bit - get some mo, and then try the big guys.

When was that last home win against Tech?[/quote]

I know we didn't win, I was reffering to the fact that we were in the game and maybe had a chance to win. I agree it would be nice to have some easy wins......but, if we couldn't beat San jose, Utep, or Baylor last year....who should we schedule. And I think we need these Big 12 schools coming in. It gets me excited for the season, and I think very soon we will get an upset here and there and it will make your year to call your buddy at aTm,TCU, Baylor, or Tech and rub it in a little....

And I agree people in the neighborhood would be fans of SMU when we start to win, but people don't care to see San Jose come in town. And yes I know CUSA will help this out a little, although I don't remember Rice Smu packing ford very often, but maybe when we win that will change. I think things are looking up at SMU land, I am very excited for the changes, and I do believe we will get this turned around.
