Yeah, they changed their example to pink after I sent them a photo of what I got the first time so people wouldn't be surprised if they ordered them expecting the other. I'm going to remind them to change it back now that they are producing the correct red mustang. It now looks very similar to this...not exactly the same, but very similar. You can tell that the mustang on the actual plate has been screened down a little, but not much. 
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

but it doesn't say SMU on the Texas plate background. could be mistaken for the Ford Mustang

Maybe it was the October special. This is after all breast cancer awareness month. I saw a bumper sticker along that vein that read "save the ta tas".

The plate with bevo on it doesn't say UT on it either. Hopefully in the near future the SMU brand won't need SMU on it to be recognizable either. Mean while a portion of the fee paid for the plate goes to the university...so the more the merrier.
