I would rather lose a close game to a Tech or an A&M than lose a game to A&M-Kingsville, or Georgia State, or Grambling. Three of our games last year were deemed powerpuff games of the week by ESPN, Baylor, UTEP and Tulsa. We have plenty of potential patsie's on the schedule already and we will in CUSA, too (ECU, UTEP, UCF). Let's make it so our fans can see what they want to see, SMU vs. Big XII schools. If we start to beat them, it makes a pretty good case for us to move up if there ever is an opening. We need to test ourselves. And playing Big XII teams allows our team some learning curve. Let's use the first three games for learning and focus on beating SJS this September. That would make us 1-0 in the WAC.
If that is they case then why do you keep whining about how we need to play an easy schedule. NO GAME FOR US WOULD BE AN EASY GAME!!! Better to get butts in the seats so that we can keep our division 1A program then to play nothing but division III teams. I can assure you that if SMU were to drop and be the Division III national champs, no one in the metroplex would give a rats patoot.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

Is it worth the embarrasment to the school to consistently have one of the worst football programs in the county? The problem with filling the stands with alumni of A$M, Tech, OSU and then getting blown-out by these schools is that it does nothing to help SMU build a fan base. SMU alumni don't even enjoy going to watch a team that does nothing but lose. I just think it would be nice if the administration would do something to make us competitive like TCU and UNT have done.
I agree Eddy P, it is lazy and boring to state the obvious, our recent disappointments. Looking in the rear view serves no purpose. How about looking to the future. What positive steps should we take to make it happen?

anyone can see we are currently "over scheduled" and it shows in our record. anyone can also see the improvement in the caliber of athletes being recruited. the problem is, our competitors are also improving. we can only hope that by 2005 or 2006 we are capable of competing with everyone on our schedule. that is going to depend on a lot of things...most notably how much our players develop and improve as they mature.
attempts were made to soften the schedule this year and it didn't work out. deal with it and move on. I will say one thing: without the big boys on the schedule, we will never have an opportunity to pull an upset that will get national attention. Hasn't that been everyone's knock on TCU in recent years...can't beat a ranked team (or USM for that matter)?
The knock on TCU might be that they can't beat a ranked team but somehow they seem to always be ranked in the top 25 and have gone to 5 bowl games in a row. Their football stadium doesn't seem to be 90% empty for home games or for that matter have 90% of the crowd cheering for the visiting team. Last year, we "averaged" about 15K at our home games and that was largely due to the OSU game when most of the stadium was for OSU. TCU had Navy, Vanderbilt, Army, UAB, Louisville, and Cincinnati for their home games and averaged over 37K in attendance. How much longer is a 2 or 3 win season going to be considered "progress"? If TCU can build their program to achieve the level of success it has, when is SMU going to do the same?
Hey PonySnob, I think you might want to join the TCU message board and become an official booster. In case you didn't know we are SMU. This is ponyfans.com not froggyfans.com. There can only be one TCU and weren't not it. Let it rest, SMU doesn't or never will stand for TCU. I prefer to do everything our own way not copying the froggers.
PS: TCU is always ranked in the top 25 because of their win/loss record. But everyone knows that they are only at the level of bottom teams in the major conferences. They beat Tulane by only 3, Arizona by 3, USF by 3, UAB by 3, Houston by 7 in OT, Louisville by 3, and SMU by 7. They can't beat a ranked team, try they can barely even beat anybody. That is not a top 25 team if you watched their games. Like I said earlier TCU= fraud. Our JV team last year almost beat them. I'm am sick and tired of TCU and please do me a favor and don't reference them for at least a month.
78. SMU 741
101. TCU 560 This is the Pre-Season 2004-2005 Strength of Schedule... Yea that pretty much says it all ![]()
The one school's fans that shouldn't use the A$M ...does.
$MU really isn't all that clean. now is it? hope you get a football team by 2005. try not to cheat by then.
ah, the stories we could tell about the good old days of the SWC and how the Aggie$ went about recruiting. Don't be naiive enough to think SMU was the dirtiest player in those days. As Stallion likes to say, we were just "competing" with our natural and traditional rivals back then.
Yeah, the old SWC sounds like it was a lot like the current SEC. I don't think we (the Aggies) were that much better.
Didn't Dickerson drive to Dallas in the car Sherrill bought him for committing to A&M, before he changed his mind? Yeah, SMU got much more than it deserved, in my opinion. I doubt the NCAA will ever do that again. I'm looking forward to the series, I've been wanting an excuse to come check out Ford. Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1995
