ALBERT CONNELL landed with his feet in bounds, I was there, I saw it, I was on the 10 yard line on the home field side. His feet were in bounds, about .25 seconds after his upper body landed out of bounds.

Well, if his upper body landed out of bounds before his feet landed in bounds, then the pass should have been ruled incomplete. What I remember most about seeing tape of that play was the fact that he "went Michael Irvin" and shoved off to create a little separation before the ball got there. I hate to blame officiating, but that game should be remembered as an SMU win. We stood toe-to-toe with the Aggies and beat them. Home field officiating?

Oh yes, it was the guy who cheated on exams and got kicked out, and then TCU accepted him as a transfer, only for him to be in the SMU dorms as a TCU student the next year and get into trouble...

But, I cannot remember his name.

soprano, I was at the Rose Bowl that day also. The boys played very hard, and had ucla on the run. It was a game SMU should've won. Three elements stopped us.
1) Poor calls by the zebras. (or lack of calls. I remember some pretty flagrant fouls by ucla going "unoticed."
2) Weak leadership by Rossley. Never have I seen such a coach be so good and bad all at once.
3) Little support. Between the stupidity of the administration, and poor fan support, the kids didn't seem to get the extra spark. I was embarrased by our fans. Most sat stoic. As for myself, I couldn't speak for days after the game my voice was gone from yelling, shouting cajoling.

But... I was still proud of my Ponies almost beating those silly bruins.

The Aggies are a good foil for any team, and would provide a great attraction for an SMU home game. Bennett has come through for us where it counts, getting a name opponent that draws a crowd. He had better improve his team before he plays them if we are to keep this series interesting.

In '94, we also at a 4 point loss to #18 North Carolina at Ownby (28-24 when the "great" Mack Brown was coaching UNC)

I seem to recall that UNC game was controversial as well. Another phantom pass interference call? All I remember is, one of the ACC line judges was basically assaulted by a disgruntled Pony fan after the game. Must have been a pretty sorry call. Anybody who was there have any recollections? Not accusing anyone of perpetrating the act, just asking.

I was at the game and it was pretty bad. The ref who threw the flag had a bad angle. But so was the phantom holding call late in the game on 3rd down when we completed a pass for first down. We definitely outplayed the Heels that day. But home cooking is home cooking. 40,000 Tar Heel fans and 500 SMU fans. You get the picture. Not sure we should have won that game, but certainly it was a great effort.

40,000 Tar Heel fans & 500 SMU fans? The game was at Ownby and had total attendance of 18,200. I don't seem to recall the Tar Heels outdrawing the Mustangs that much, although I'm sure there was a fairly sized group of Carolina fans there.
But there was a couple of critical calls that went against the Mustangs late in the game, and if I remember correctly, it was an ACC crew officiating the game. I can't remember all the details around the calls, but I do know all of us Mustang Faithful were quite upset after the game.

18,500 was almost a sell out at Ownby which held 23,000 I believe. I remember 2 really obvious "protectionist" calls near the end of the game
by the all ACC officiating crew. If I'd been in throwin distance of them, I would've nailed a few of them with binoculars, shoes, etc.

I sat in the end zone, that was the year that the QB from Arlington Lamar? (who I think transferred to Sam Houston later) was playing. We had them beat all game until we let a crossing pass around the 25 yard line (north) slip past and go nearly or all the way for their go ahead TD with perhaps under 5min to go.
