hopefully when guys like Cory Muse and Avery Cleveland and some others mature we'll have the athletes to do that-we tried that in one game last year with multiple blitzers and came up a split second late all game long-then you're in BIG TROUBLE with DBs who don't have single coverage skills. That's one reason I don't think you can really judge Bennett's defenses yet-which honestly have not been on a par with our previous coordinator Schumann. But unlike some on this board I think Bennett should stay with his agressive philosphy even if he doesn't yet have the talent on the field to fully implement it. Let'em learn because we are starting to at least get the guys on the field with the speed to make it work. As for Tech's Offensive Line they absolutely dominated SMU at least after the First Quarter and it was a track meet after that. I was truly impressed with Tech's splits last year. If you haven't seen it-there were literrally 4 yards between each SMU defensive lineman just to spread the field. That leaves huge gaps to run up the middle and miles and miles for the DEs and OLBs to reach the QB.

I'm not so sure the DBs will struggle as much as before, even without Jonas. It looked last year like Humphrey was starting to be a more consistent, reliable defender, and Akinyemi seems to be the real deal, according to people who saw a lot of practices in the fall and spring. And I like Nnabuife and Harper at the safety spots. I think the secondary will be OK, and as the CBs get more experienced and athletic, we could start to see more typical Bennett-style defense.

Thats right and no offense can be successful that doesnt protect the qb and backfield. I think at times our defense has lost its focus and its will after watching the offense struggle repeatedly. Its just human nature. When the OLine comes together, everything will improve.

How true. The most important guys for the success of the secondary might well be Justin Rogers, Melvin Williams, Dominic Pryor, Charlie Berry and the OLBs rushing in from the outside.
