Larry Brown proves coaching matters

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Jun 15, 2004 10:59 pm

As the only BB coach to win an NCAA and NBA title, Larry Brown has shown how much coaching matters in any sport. Let's hope SMU FB takes note and makes something happen soon.

Is your point that Phil is the answer and will be successful or are you second guessing the rebuilding?

coaching differences are apparent immediately

Where ever Larry Brown goes, his teams get better immediately in some important way. In what way did SMU get better after Bennet took over?

Hard to say if our recruiting has truly gotten better as so far, it has not translated to any success on the field. Judging by the expectations of most SMU fans, one or two wins will be a successful season this year so recruiting doesn't appear to be having much of an impact on the W-L record in 2004.

Tulsa got better in one year

Postby Sam I Am » Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:25 pm

Tulsa had a weak team too and got better in one year with a coaching change. The most that I can allow about Bennett is that his defense was better against the run in his first year, but he has never had a good pass defense. I don't think he was to adapt his system to his players. Maybe he will succeed in recruiting players that can play his system, but we haven't seen it yet. By the third year, a team ought to show improvement if it is ever going to happen (and I don't necessarily mean more wins, but at least in what we see on the field). Others have done more with less.
