SMU offers Cedar Hill QB Driphus Jackson

Postby George S. Patton » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:48 am

He's actually 6-0, 205. I have no idea if he could play DI QB but his numbers -- 68% completion percetage, 2,500 passing yards, 24 TDs and 5 ints -- make you believe he didn't reach this level because he stinks.

He's also tacked on 500 rushing yards. So you're looking at a guy with at least 3000 all-purpose yards.

Should be interesting if he comes to play ball here where he fits.

I'll say this, his coach Joey McGuire is a very good teacher of the game and that Cedar Hill program has been producing quite a few DI kids recently.

FWIW.

Sounds like the type of guy JJ likes to make into receivers.

He is supposedly being recruited as a QB and only want to play QB in college.

That's correct. Despite the large offer list, it sounds like he's seriously considering SMU because we're offering the chance to compete at QB. He has reservations about Padron having two years of eligibility left, however, and would like to play early.

Film shows a live arm and an impressive ability to improvise/throw on the run. Looks like an interesting prospect to me. Could see us working in some packages for him at QB early to provide a wrinkle to our offense.

Man, that Rivals photo of him throwing looks awkward. Kind of a sidearm off the back foot looking picture.

To be honest, I can't see him coming here. He desperately wants to be play QB and with all the guys we have in line, I don't see him coming here and waiting his turn in the hopes that he plays.

I hope this recruit realizes he isn't going to play QB at SMU. Unless Padron, Kaiser,Conner are busts.

He's a 2011 recruit - seems strange to offer him when you've already gotten Conner Preston's commitment for the same class, especially when Conner seems somewhat important in the recruitment of both Levingston and Devon Moreland

Same reason you recruit Dickerson and James in the same class; you're only one hit away from losing the central cog in your offense.

Biggest difference between SMU and the big conference schools we want to beat and compete against is depth. Get a couple of top-flight recruits in here and let them compete.

Has anyone seen any film? How accurate is he? Does he seem to fit the JJ mold?

The transition form HS to college at QB is tough especially in a complicated offense like the run and shoot you need to hae losts of options at QB because you never know who is going to "get it"

Kid has 12 offers-a lot of Coaches think hed can play somewhere. He probably fits better in Rice's offense
