smu vs ualrModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: smu vs ualrmight have had a better shot at not turning his ankle if he wasnt wearing the low-tops that JJ Barea does.
That said, for a true frosh I saw more hustle and drive and confidence from JFrog than I did from our pre-season all-Conf pick. Why is our 6'9 big man taking 18 foot jumpshots? And the play when Dia had the ball at the top of the key, was holding it over his head, and a UALR guard stripped it from behind was simply embarrassing.
Re: smu vs ualr
Dia looked like he did as a sophomore, which is to say: bad.
Re: smu vs ualrYou have some diamonds and you have some poo poo, but it all looks like poo poo!!
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: smu vs ualr
My take is that you don't schedule your home opener on Friday night with HS playoff games being played on your campus. Plus, the Mavs playing @ home. Schedule the freakin game on Saturday afternoon or night. The Doh era scheduling has been terrible. 2nd, its extremely hard to go 0-10 shooting the rock. I mean really hard. 3rd, I like your take TCUBCSBOUND on the Doh situation. I completely understand the pros & cons. This is D1 basketball & there really is no excuse for this type of ongoing bad basketball. No depth on the roster, who's fault? Yes, not having 3 key recruits hurts. But no excuse for the lack of depth. Most of these guys ARE NOT D1 talent. Of course, that's stating the obvious. No guarantee some of the euro's ever step floor on the court for SMU. No guarantee Doh & staff can coach up the new & improved coming in NEXT season. BTW, this now make 3 straight seasons I hear everyone, including myself, thinking wait till NEXTseason. What a shame. For what its worth, I went through a HC change while in college. The coach that recruited me left & the new coach was much better. It didn't phase anybody on the team that the coach that recruited all of us got fired. It actually fired everybody up. The new coach was much better. Just saying. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."

Ha! Thanks, Emmitt. Derail the Frogs!
Re: smu vs ualr
PonyDoh, you are our best BB poster, don't force me to do homework
Re: smu vs ualrDoh reminds me of a story. There was a woman talking with her friend and said that after 5 yrs of marriage she was still a virgin. Her friend ask how that could be. The woman replied that her husband was an IBM salesman and spent so much time telling her how good it was going to be that he never got around to doing it.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: smu vs ualrThis is DOh's 5th year. If he can't produce then he needs to go at the end of the season. No more [deleted] excuses.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: smu vs ualrIt's definitely time for Doherty to make his exit. After 5 years of this mess it's time to bring someone else in if for no other reason than to start rebuilding trust with the alumni. Seriously, we have seen Doherty approach rebuilding this program from so many different angles, and we have nothing really to show for it.
He has mismanaged our team from Day 1 and it's time for us to have a clean start. If he can leave our cabinet with a little something in it before he departs, well then perhaps I will not feel as negatively towards him as I currently do.
Re: smu vs ualrthis whole season was dependent on the roster...which as it turns out did not develop the way we had hoped. We are going to be short handed and run off the floor by some very marginal teams that are much deeper than we are
Re: smu vs ualrRoster problems like that should not exist after 4 years of coaching/recruiting. Doh has simply been a major failure. Time to move on. Somebody needs to tell Orsini that it is his responsibility to make the change.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: smu vs ualrWe don't seem to have the money to buy out Doh, pay for another staff, and the roster is quite good starting next year. Everyone hates the results, the roster management etc. Still, nobody addresses the reality of the situation.
I'm all for giving any coach a legit run, but you can't have 10 eligible in year 5, w/o a legit high mid PG prospect anywhere on the roster. You can't have one big in your 9 deep. You can't always turn the ball over more than you have team assists. This team is going to be a disaster b/c it has limited talent and is painfully thin. FWIW, I hear that Pats may get cleared before long, but he's the least impact of the 3 ineligibles “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: smu vs ualr
agreed that roster problems like this shouldn't exist, but they do exist, and we've all known about them forever. It's hard to take anyone seriously that is actually upset by the UA-LR game, when we've all known this team couldn't win AAU tournaments. Next years roster has a chance, but this year is like a dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. Re: smu vs ualr
Swimming and track have had many many Euro over the years and never had a problem getting them into school, cleared and eligible. Most have been honor students and graduate on schedule. Why do we constantly have problems with basketball and football??????
Re: smu vs ualr
You are making a GREAT assumption that we will have all of these future kids on the roster next year. Last November after NLI day I challenged PonyDoh on this board about his assumptions as to the great things this year's class would bring. I questioned whether or not any of them would be eligible and/or even make it on campus. He gave me babble that they would all be ok. My concerns have come to fruition. I still question how many, if any, will actually ever take the court. Most of these 2011 kids are right on the bubble academically and you can never count on them until they are actually cleared and on campus.
