We'd have to beat ECU to keep Tulsa out of it, unless Tulsa loses to either UTEP or So Miss.

Lots of interesting subplots here.

Tulsa has UTEP and Southern Miss at home. Figure they could very well lose to Southern Miss, but they have both games at home, I would give them the nod at winning both.

Houston plays at Southern Miss and at Texas Tech AND they sit at 5 wins. I would say the odds are pretty good they will not make it to six wins and will not go bowling, pretty hard to fathom, but that is how it looks.

SMU holds their own fate in their hands. We need to win against Marshall and go into the last week in control.

The really hairy subplot though is what if Houston and Tulsa both lose to USM (very possible), and we lose one or both of our last one. The West team going into the championship game would not be bowl eligible if they lost. Hell, we even have a scenario where Tulsa loses to USM and UTEP, Houston loses to USM, and we lose to Marshall and ECU. In that case we would represent the West at 5-7. We could win C-USA and be bowl ineligible at 6-7. Maybe there would be some concession, but a team with a losing record cannot go bowling the way it is written now.

Best way to avoid that is to just win our next two.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

I don't know if the rule has changed or not but UNT went to the New Orleans bowl with a 5-6 record in 2001 because they were the conference champions.

They applied for a waiver and were granted one by the NCAA. We could do the same but unless there aren't enough bowl-eligible teams we won't get a waiver.

FIU currently sits atop the SBC at 4-1 but 4-5 overall

Remember watching UCF beat was it Houston last year and what were you thinking then?
Another gift, another opportunity , what will they do? If they can muster two wins I will be happy, if not I will just watch a lot of Boise.

so the door is open once again for SMU to win out and play in the CUSA title game. I'm sure the Liberty Bowl was hoping for UCF to win out and finish as a top 25 team. Can't blame them for wanting someone other than the CUSA champ this year

so what happens now if there is a 3 way tie between Houston, Tulsa and SMU with 3 losses. I knew the tiebreaker if Houston beat Tulsa because Houston would have beaten both SMU and Tulsa. Not sure now if each beat one of the other. Is it total points scored or some kind of mathematical rating. I guess Tulsa would win that one.

Division record would be the 1st tie-breaker in a 3-way tie. Right now; Tulsa 3-1, SMU 3-2, Houston 3-2

4. If still tied, compare records against divisional opponents in descending order of finish.

If we end up 6-6, we don't deserve to go the the CUSA championship game. Let's just win out and not worry about sub-.500 records or backing in. Let's just win. Start with Marshall and then travel to East Carolina and take care of bidness.

If we do end up 6-6, then hopefully Tulsa wins out and represents the West in the title game so we don't have to put our bowl hopes on the line in a game where we'll be thoroughly embarrassed.

Pretty long fourth quarter. Has this game gone final?
