GO PONIES!!!

agreed that roster problems like this shouldn't exist, but they do exist, and we've all known about them forever. It's hard to take anyone seriously that is actually upset by the UA-LR game, when we've all known this team couldn't win AAU tournaments. Next years roster has a chance, but this year is like a dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about.

You are making a GREAT assumption that we will have all of these future kids on the roster next year.
Last November after NLI day I challenged PonyDoh on this board about his assumptions as to the great things this year's class would bring. I questioned whether or not any of them would be eligible and/or even make it on campus. He gave me babble that they would all be ok. My concerns have come to fruition. I still question how many, if any, will actually ever take the court. Most of these 2011 kids are right on the bubble academically and you can never count on them until they are actually cleared and on campus.

Blah, they are in school taking a redshirt all admitted into SMU. Two of them practice w/the team, and they expect the 3rd to be cleared shortly. Smith is getting screwed. These kids would have to transfer at this point, and would be eligible that much later, unless they just decide to play pro ball overseas, which Pats/Vilde could have done 3 years ago, and never gone to american prep schools, to get into american colleges etc.

You were guessing, threw crap against a wall, and it stuck. Nice work, but CUSA is littered w/ Prop 48s this year, not just SMU. Every legit hoops prospect in America is in jeopardy of not qualifying, pocono. Have any idea what the transcripts of Houston & UTEPs kids are, coming in next year? I do, and they are far worse than Cannen Cunningham and Eric Norman. Hell, they are tons worse than Leslee Smith/Pats and Vilde. Jherrod Stiggers gets a huge lol.

The facts are that all 3 ineligible kids are in our top 6 players, and not having them really hurts. That said, they ARE in the program right now, so the only reason to speculate that they wouldn't matriculate, is if you're a hater, or have some inside info no one else has. Anything can happen, but right now all 3 are on the roster.

I wouldn't give Doh more time, just b/c of the roster however. If we had legit buy out money, and cash to hire a profile coach, I'd bet he could retain most of the classes.

A good recruiting class is NOT enough to keep a losing HC. The most exciting thing that could happen to SMU men's hoops is a new HC for 2011-12. It also would have been the most exciting thing about 2010-11 men's hoops program :D.

Doh can walk out with his head held high & tell all of us that he left the program in great shape with the influx of talent coming in for 2011-12.

Its not about being a Doh hater or anything personal against Doh. Its about having a good basketball program & it ain't gonna happen with Doh around here. I give him this year & than lets move on with it.

Amen, couldn't have said it better myself!
And what a brutal home opener against a team that won a total of 0 games on the road all of last year.

It begs the question as to why most elite basketball players are on the academic bubble and the preponderance of C-USA kids are Prop. 48s who have trouble qualifying when this seldom exist in all other sports. Swimming, track and tennis to name a few have no problems with the transcripts of their foreign/Euro kids readily getting them admitted, NCAA qualified and immediately on the playing field. Why is there always excuses and problems with basketball???

Tulsa lost to UALR today 69-67. And we all know that Tulsa always has a pretty good basketball team.

I think all of us wanted Doh to succeed and expected him to do so. That is why the venom has been particularly brutal from all. He has not been a successful coach to date. I hope things turn around for him. But, it may be we that we need a new face for the program.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

It's weird, cause I have no expectations for this season based on the roster situation. Had the 3 ineligibles been cleared, I'd have expected one loss right now. Add to that, all those kids come eligible next year, and we have a very nice(local) class coming in. It's a different team and roster, completely competitive vs a legit schedule, not just this bs we're seeing this year.

On one hand, no way you can give Doh a mulligan for this year. On the other, this team has nothing to do w/what Doh has in the program moving forward. I want to see him gone half the time, just for new blood. OTOH, it's hard to want to eff up the roster, by replacing Doh, just b/c of the play of this one-off, aberration of a squad.

I noticed that score this morning; makes me think we might be more competitive in CUSA than I had feared
