exactly. Not to mention SMU would be at a huge financial disadvantage(we are talking big money for bowl and TV distributions) plus National TV access and TCU would be able to recruit touting easy access to BCS Bowl Games in an automatic qualifier conference. Its would be more than just a different, better conference this time-there would be real tangible benefits. "

Confused as to how TCU accepting a Big East invite puts us at a financial disadvantage.

I'm not one to say i told you so very often, but a few people on this board including myself, saw this one in the tea leaves months ago if not over a year ago. So where are the several blowhards who declared so adamently that even the idea of TCU to the Beast was idiotic etc.? Wonder if our admin saw this possibility coming (not implying they did or didn't).

It's all relative. TCU, who demographically is SMU-West, now officially has millions more coming in than SMU - on top of whatever financial advantage they already had.

It seriously hurts us.

you really don't get it do you-these TV contracts, Bowl Contracts, NCAA Tournament and BCS Bowls all distribute revenue on a conference basis. Here is a discussion based upon the BCS part of those revenues

http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/64647

I bet most don't realize that when a BCS conference goes to BCS Bowl they get a full share-when a non-BCS conference gets a team in they get a half share. We are talking about multiple millions of dollars from all 4 revenue streams v. chicken feed that CUSA or even MWC gets

Now that the model has changed, I am sure your mustang club donation will more than make up for this...

It is quite apparent that most people are unbelivably clueless concerning the reasons for and benefits conference expansion/realignment.

It isn't 1964 anymore guys.

There is one side of the political debate who believes that someone's gain is another's loss. Good for them for potentially getting more money. It doesn't hurt us.

SMU needs to become an independent, and then demand equal status with Notre Dame.

If the BCS fails to honor our demand, SMU file a Big $$$ suit based on "Religious" Discrimination.

John Wesley would encourage the BCS to experience Jesus Christ personally.

I think you are missing the point here. The extra money they get can go to a number of important functions, such as recruiting, marketing, etc. Since we are in local competition for recruits (HA!) and attention, a financial advantage to TCU in either of these areas is harmful.

Now I agree good for them. They made the requisite commitment to athletic excellence long before we did and it's paying dividends now. But I would not agree that it doesn't hurt us.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Remember that when you see more TCU advertising selling their program to more and more DFW residents who become TCU and not SMU fans, attending TCU and not SMU games. Getting better attenance and higher ratings when a conference goes "we could use a team in DFW, who will get us better market share?"

Remember that when TCU is building even more superior facilities to ours to sell to potential recruits.

We are in direct competition with them. If you can't see how this hurts us you are totally clueless.

I'm sorry, but I don't see our revenues *declining* because TCU decided to go to the Big East. We are simply not that interconnected. If anything, there may be a trickle down effect.

No one on this thread has posted a more credible source than Engel saying a move is imminent. The Boston Globe guy, who is one of the two most reputable sources regarding the Big East, has said that UCF is the most likely candidate with a spot being left open for Nova when they want to move up
