Can Someone Explain...?

Can someone explain how Doherty is still the coach? I don't follow the basketball team nearly as closely as football, but from what I understand, the recruiting was appalling. We have had 0 success since he's been here. It looks like this season is going to be a disaster as well, seeing as we lost our opener at home to the equivalent to ITT Tech.

Surely it's a money thing and we just don't want to hire someone else. There can't be anyone who thinks this guy deserves to keep his job with the total lack of results.

For a period of time, the position badly needed rehabilitation following the Tubbs debacle. The idea of a school like SMU firing Doherty before the period of time that both he and the administration publicly acknowledged it would take to turn the program around would be grounds for institutionalization. Coming right on the heels of a white-washed, elite private school conjuring up "very secondary infractions" in order to get rid of a black head coach and former local foot soldier less than three full years in to his tenure would have been beyond stupid. Try and attract a quality coaching candidate when the last two would have been fired in manners such as those.

That time period has passed, we are in year five, and the evidence is laid bare right in front of us.

what you guys said, plus Doherty's attorneys/agent were/are better than SMU's, and they worked in that ridiculous extension based on doing whatever. This contract shouldve been done at 5 years.

Time for Doherty to man up and accept responsibility for what's gone on here.

Typing this, I just had a thought...we now have a capable person on the bench who might as well become the interim coach in Mangino. The class is signed.
