Pray for OC Mustang

Our faithful East Texas -- Marshall -- sage lost his grandmother recently. She lived a great life and passed away at the age of 96.

He was with her at the end and has had a lot to endure over these last several weeks knowing her hour was coming.

He called me to tell me and since many of you have either traded notes with him or met him in person, you know he's as genuine as they come. I can tell you he was a rock for me when my Dad passed last year. He and I have known each other since 1988. One of the best friends I've ever had.

Should he get everything arranged for the funeral, he said he was still going to see if there was a way he could make the Marshall game. Might be good for him to get out of town and take his mind off things.

So please keep him and family in your thoughts this weekend.

Prayers for OC Mustang.

Say hello to my mom she left last year for that great place. You know you’re not in an old body there, and the place really does exist. I always had faith and hope but never really felt like someone had made the transition until she left. A very calm surreal comfort of knowing came over me.. We are so much more than some people think.

Peace be with you guys...thank you for the prayers. Has been a long day...got a couple more to go. I will indeed be at the game tomorrow. My lovely wife and boys deserve some normalcy, and we all have been looking forward to game day.

More information than you wanted, but my mom, who was an only child, passed away my sophomore year in 1989 very suddenly and unexpectedly. My grandmother has lived the last 21 years or so wanting...more at some times and less at others...to go home. But through it all, the little lady has prayed ceaselessly for me, my wife, and my boys. I am truly humbled.

A little SMU link, though...my grandmother was a life long Methodist and very supportive of my attending SMU. She recalled to me how she and my grandfather listening to Doak Walker and Kyle Rote in the 1940s, names she knew clearly and without prompting well into her 90s. She was thoroughly tickled being able to see the place that she heard about on the radio, and to watch me graduate...with the graduation speech being by no less than the President! (elder Bush in '92). That was a big deal to her, and it gave me great joy to see her so pleased in spite of my mother's passing.

So...forgive me for a little too much information...but I appreciate the opportunity to share a little bit of richness that I experienced.

Every one is granted as much leeway as they need when it comes to reminiscing about a loved one's passing. She will live with you always in your heart and spirit. That's the way I've felt ever since my Dad passed away nearly 5 years ago. They are the lucky ones now, and those they left behind are the ones who find it difficult to move on without them. Peace be with you and your family in your time of mourning.
