VaTech off. coordinator

Postby Red+BlueDude » Mon Nov 26, 2001 1:13 pm

I know I've already pushed for Doug Williams, but the chance to get Rickey Bustle from VaTech is one that shouldn't be passed up. I'm a huge Doug Williams fan, but Bustle would be perfect. Being on the outskirts of Hokie Country up here, I get to see a little of what Tech has done in recent years, and it's not all Michael Vick. This guy can recruit, and he can flat-out coach. You want an innovative offense? Wait until you see what this guy will put in at SMU.

Pull the trigger Copeland. Hire him today.

If nothing else, it's nice to see that there are some decent prospects actually interested in coaching at SMU. BTW, the rumor mill says the Notre Dame coach may be available shortly....would we be interested in him if that's true?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

It does say something about how the program looks today compared to 5 years ago. I think we can get a good list of candidates and really finally turn it around.

I'm not sure we should go for the hire before seeing the final list. Copeland seems to be bringing better and better guys up each day. I'll support whomever he brings in and think we all should back the Program.

PK, don't do that to me! Anyone who can take Notre Dame and flush that program, with its national TV contract, unlimited budget, endless resources, etc., is NOT the man to bring us back to glory. Hell, I'd rather see us dig up Bud Wilkinson than roll Davie out there. Recruits would laugh at him.

RedRiverPony, I wasn't aiming at you or anyone else for that matter. I just threw him out there....sort of like Barry of OU fame....for some laughs. You're right, how could anyone ruin that golden goose egg???

All I know is that Bustle is largely credited with getting Michael Vick to choose Virginia Tech. The man can recruit.

'Nuff said.
