Ryan Kennedy...

Postby MrMustang1965 » Wed Jun 09, 2004 10:02 pm

Stopped at The Spirit Shop today. Met a nice young man named Ryan Kennedy who was working behind the counter. Tight end, sophomore from Beeville, he said. Stop by and say 'Go Mustangs!' to him. He says ALL the team is on campus this summer, they're working out HARD and they're ready for the season!

I keep thinking Ryan Kennedy will be a really nice surprise this year. He's built like a house, and in watching him in warm-ups before games, he looks like he has pretty soft hands for such a big guy. He might not be a TE who can get 50 yards downfield (that's you, Vincent Chase), but he might be sensational as a third-down receiver over the middle and, of course, he's big enough that he should be able to block like a sixth offensive lineman .... which should allow Coach Burns a little more flexibility with his new offense.

If used properly, I would think this guy could be a great asset for the offense. He looks like a guy who could create mismatch headaches for defenses.

Isn't this the TE who some said would be kicked inside to OL? Any progress on that move? Or has that idea been shelved?

Yeah, that's the same guy. What I don't know is whether the idea of kicking him inside to the OL was an idea from the coaches, or whether it was just idle speculation by PonyFans. He certainly has the frame for it, and looks like he easily could carry even more weight. But if he can move and if he can catch, I like the idea of watching defenses pulling their hair out trying to figure out how to tackle a guy that size.

He'll be very important in goal-line offense, as an extra blocker or busting off the line as an extra target.

Anyone know how well he runs? Could he be a legitimate downfield threat, or just a blocking TE who can find a seam over the middle?
