The improbable Zach Line

Postby newshound » Sun Nov 21, 2010 1:12 am

You just cannot say enough about this Zach Line kid and what he's done. He has to be the biggest surprise in the conference -- and perhaps the country. His 202 yards today were just the 10th 200-yard game in school history and the 8th-most in a single game in school history. In this offense, frankly, it's even more amazing.

He is averaging 106.7 yards per game and, if the Ponies take care of business, he will have three more games to add to that total. Now that bowl game stats count, he could end up with the second-best single-season rushing season (total yards) in school history. Who'd-a-thunk that? Go Zach, Go!

Great job getting off to a great start today. I think we've all been waiting for a first-quarter explosion (players, coaches, fans alike). The first 25 minutes won that game. The defense was even better than the offense. But, again, the two-minute drill at the end of the half was poorly executed (a la Navy) and it could have cost us. That said, a win is a win. This team did what it had to do. They are 6-5 and really, other than at Rice, have yet to play a great 60-minute game.

Let's stay optimistic here. The way East Carolina has fallen apart (allowing 76 points to Navy and 62 to Rice), this is a great, great opportunity for the program to truly get ahead of schedule as far as building the overall program in concerned. This team is so due just to really get it in gear for a full game and even with some spotty play the last month, all the chips are still in the table and the Ponies are playing with some house money now.

Today was so much fun. Wish more people could have witnessed it, but we're getting there. Still want to see a little more sense of urgency from the team -- and the staff -- at times. But, man, as a fan, you've got to be really happy and yet I think we all know the best is yet to come. Congrats to all and to us hearty fans who have stuck it out. Go Ponies. Beat East Carolina! And, let's play for that C-USA title!

I just hope the young backups and incoming RB recruits don't get discouraged about playing time because it's going to be tough to get Zach off the field the way he is playing.
