If I am not mistaken, Craig James, in his book said that the only fair way to determine a national champion was to have a playoff system so I guess that shows that he is not entirely in the corner of the BCS.

Or at least that is what he thought at that time. Craig is entitled to his opinion and no reason to bash him for that. I personally think Eric Dickerson was the most important recruit over the past 65 years.

I'm pretty sure if we had more people listening to Craig James rather than supporting and actually buying into the incredible stupidity and utter nonsense spread by Ken Pye, Doug Single and Jim Copeland that we wouldn't have been the most pathetic program in the country for two decades. Craig James on the other hand, the most important SMU recruit in the last 65 years. I have no problem with people disagreeing with his comments-what I have a problem with are SMU fans making the disparaging shots at him we have all seen on this board. It really is pathetic when so many alleged SMU fans come on our own board and lower themselves to cursing or taking personal shots at a guy who meant so much to this program. Loyal SMU fans yeah-well you suck. I take great solace in knowing I was one of the few on this board who stood up to the same hypocrites who similiarly used to take shots at Eric Dickerson.

There may be some folks who probably take it too far with what they say about CJ given that he is a fellow Mustang. But sometimes he really brings the criticism on himself. He may have been one of the most important recruits ever to our school, but that doesn't change the fact that as a commentator today, he often comes across as an arrogant @sshole.

Look, I grew up a huge Redskins fan, but I can't stand Joe Theismann. I loved the guy during his playing days, but he's a [deleted]. That doesn't take anything away from the fact that he helped lead the Redskins to back-to-back Super Bowls, winning the one in 1982. I know it may be a slightly different argument since I am more tied to SMU than to the Redskins, but I think it still gets the point across.

Craig has an opinion that some of us disagree with. That has nothing to so with his playing days at SMU.

I will agree that sometimes having a different opinion makes one look a tad foolish. I know when my wife and I have a difference of opinion, I usually end up being the dumb @ss and have to kiss-@ss.

Since you actually played for SMU, I appreciate your opinion. BEAT ECU!!!

SA, I think you are right on - ESPN is part of the cartel and he is upholding the company line. He commentary is not much more than conventional wisdom. I like the guy, but he hasn't really had an original thought when it comes to issues like the BCS. He perfectly fine with the status quo.

The problem is that this kind of thinking cost SMU and him a national championship. From past statements he is a little butter about that. You would think losing out on a national championship might give him a little broader perspective.

Every word out of his mouth is a veiled insult towards small schools in general and SMU in particular.

Though a lot of people here disagree with some things Craig has said, lets don't forget that Craig was an All American RB here and part of the Pony Express. You don't have to like some of what he has said, but to say you "hate him" is really stupid if you are fan of the program.

It goes w/out saying, every SMU fan appreciates his play as a Pony, doesn't mean I have to like his opinions or anything he says, his demeanor or commentary.

Every 3rd or 4th game he does, they flash up his picture with Dickerson or comment on the Pony Express.

Objection!
Craig James was not an All-America pick at SMU, was he? He's not in the media guide anyway. ED was. So was John Simmons, Harvey Armstrong and Russell Carter from that time period. Reggie Dupard, '85.
