TCU Game

Postby RGV Pony » Wed Jun 23, 2004 8:43 pm

This post is done partially out of curiousity, and partially out of selfishness, as the TCU game is about the only football game I'll make it to this year (barring a bowl appearance). My question is, how likely is it that we can get 10k Pony fans over there? What would it take (besides spanking TTU...not likely) I know it may seem far fetched, but man it would be nice. A pile of red in the stands would be a good sight to see, and would make it more palatable for us and the team. Back when I lived in Dallas, it was always frustrating to see the Cotton Bowl have the same attendance whether we were playing TCU, BYU or whomever (i.e. not many).

I'm open to creative incentive ideas.

I think it will be just about impossible to get 10K SMU fans over to the TCU game. We can't even draw 10K SMU fans to a home game. In all likelihood, it will the usual 250 - 300 die-hard fans that always seem to make it over there and that travel to most of the away games in Texas.

There will be 1500 fans over there, just like always. 500-750 die hards, and 500-1000 students on buses...believe it not.

The Maloof family had a good idea at last year's Las Vegas bowl. New Mexico needed to have a certain # of tickets sold, and wanted people there. So the beer distributors bought several thousand tickets and all the fans had to do was show up. Maybe this would be a better thing to do at a home game, so we get the $$, but I'd buy 10 tickets if it meant 10 more that wouldn't normally show up would. If there's 1000 diehards that would do the same, then twist some arms? Maybe just wishful thinking.

What games are you going to? How "tolerable" will it be for you this year when we fail to meet the 15k fans per home game (tix torn, not sold) and get dropped to D-1AA like a hot potato?

Hey jt, glad to see you posting here. Quick question. How many season tickets have you bought and how many extra "fans" are you going to be bringing to the games with you to shore up those torn ticket numbers? Just curious.

I don't buy season tickets. I walk up on game day after a few cold ones on the 'vard, buy the cheapest ticket available, and sit on the 50 yard line. I'll have the usual 3-4 folks in tow this year, same as always. How 'bout you PK?

1) Thanks for all of your financial support of the Mustangs.

2) The game is in Ft. Worth this year.

I'm glad you can drag 3 to 4 with you...I'm not all that concerned that you buy the cheapest tickets and sit elsewhere, as long as we get the torn tickets in for the count. Actually, you can buy cheap season tickets too and then you wouldn't have to hassel with the ticket windows every game. I buy regular priced season tickets for four every year on the 30 yd line...I happen to like those seats. I must admit, I'm not always able to get two extra folks to sit with us, but I try.

I hope the day is not too far off when there won't be any seats available for you on the 50...nothing personal jt, I just want to see the place full up.

I don't buy season tickets for the flexibility, since I sometimes can't make a game for business. I don't mind the ticket window. BTW, I would gladly give up my seat on the fifty to the holder of that ticket. Preferably, I'd be required to sit in the seat I purchased because of the crowd, but I'm not holding my breath.

I hope you bring the extra tickets even when you can't find takers and have their stubs torn anyway. Just leave and come back in with the extras. Every little bit helps, I guess.

That's what I plan to do this year. In prior years it really didn't matter.

I'll probably go to TCU and Rice and UTEP this fall. I may come to the Tulsa game since it starts at 2 PM.

You obviously didn't go to many of the games last year. We wore the red jersy almost as much as the navy blue. In fact we wore the red ones in our game against TCU. As for this year against TCU, we are playing in Fort Worth and we will be wearing white. So bring your little white helmet and craddle it in your arms during the game if it makes you feel better...you will be at the game won't you?
