Postby NCAAFtball Fan » Sat Jun 26, 2004 6:56 pm

Hello Mustangs fans! It is with pleasure than I announce a new, nation-wide, college football website. The College Football Fan Base provides articles "From the Cheap Seats: For the Fan, By the Fan," as well as message boards and top 25s. The website is currently in it's infancy and does not have any articles as of yet, but the message boards are up! I invite you all to join. Mustangs35SMU on this board is a moderator, and I'm sure he can tell you more about it.

Thanks,

N. Vance

What a crap website. Why would you want to advertise that?

I know that it is crap right now, unfortunately, but I promise we have more to come!!! We have a release of several Top 25s in Tuesday, and by Friday a lot of content will also be released! I ask you to be patient with it, because even the design is in the early stages, and as the website designer, I can assure you that changes are in store for it. Please be patient with the Fan Base and keep watching as we begin to get off our feet! It can become a special place, but what will drive it to that place is the fans. I am trying to make it as fan-friendly as possible, unfortunately It's only been online 3 days so I don't know how good of a job I am doing.

Please stay patient with us, we are committed to bringing you a quality website!

I also thank you for visiting and sharing your opinion, it helps me build a better website. I have taken your comment into consideration and will decide where to go from here on the website. If anyone else has seen it and can offer suggestions or criticism, just post! I am all ears!

Are you hiring freelance writers or photographers? I know a couple of each who do very good work with sports writing and sports photography. If so, how should they contact you?

I am not hiring as of yet because of a low budget but as the site grows I may be looking to hire some freelances. I'll keep you posted!

I think it is indeed crap and i also think it is a shame that he would take advantage of another site to advertise his site. I hope he had the courtesy to e-mail the webmaster to ask for permission.

No I did not but I will, just give me the email and I will do that indeed. If he/she does not give me permission I will be glad to delete the thread.

You keep saying it is crap but you give me no way to improve on it. I'm still in the process of gathering information to release so unless you can be patient and check back in a few weeks you will always believe it is crap.

It is not my intention to upset you fans. It's just to give you another place to support your team!!! If the staff here at Ponyfans.com takes me as competition, I will gladly say that I mean in now way to compete with them. I don't mean to compete with any other site. As a matter of fact, I'm not even doing this to make money. I'm doing this purely for the love of the sport, the same reason you see so many people playing college football or any college sport for that matter.

The sole reason why you are upset is because you were expecting more when you went over there. Personally, I'd like to be 10 steps ahead of where I am as well. But things don't happen that fast, so I like all of you have to be patient. If you choose not to return to my site, I am not going to blame you. I'll just look to other fans who see it the same way I do, as (what will become) a truly unique website that will cater to the fans.

I made the mistake of listing this prematurely. If you come and check back in even a week's time, you will see a much improved site. If you never come back, you're missing out on a chance to support your team, and you're missing out on what will be a unique website.

Again, I'm not competing with anyone with this site. I'm making the site different by choice. We already have 11 people who have seen it as a great site as you can see on the message boards. While those same boards aren't what I want them to be, I'm looking for a better way as well.

If you feel that the site is crap please tell me how I can improve. That's all I ask.

I'm sure it's a hell of a lot of work running a site like this one, and like yours, but get after it - when they get as good as this one, they're a lifesaver for fans. Get as much quality content as you can, and the site will sell itself to visitors. Roll up your sleeves and go to work - good luck.

Thank you for your support NavyCrimson!!! Just curious, if you checked it out how is it coming along? I can't really be a judge of that because I have been designing it so I value any comments and will try and improve the site by taking those comments into consideration!

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I was working...we have now updated our message boards, gotten a new design up for the main site, and released our first article.

I would like to extend an invitation to those behind PonyFans.com to pay a visit, tell me what they think, and maybe we can work together to bring the best news to college football fans worldwide.

A few design comments:

Why are the hyperlinks in the menu seperated? So they aren't underlined? You can use style sheets to avoid that. I would also get rid of the "Coming Soon" links, makes the site look unfinished (which I guess it is, but you don't want to project that image).

Why is the image above red (and on the message board), but the rest of the site blue? It clashes just a bit (not that there is anything wrong with red and blue :)).

Eh, that's all I see right now. Hope it helps.

In the red banner in your first post, you call this site "College Football Fan Base", but the abbreviation is "CFB." Shouldn't that be "CFFB?"
What do I know? I can't spell anway.
