Some interesting data about the major confrencesSo now that tcu is one of 3 remaing undefeated teams and the debate about who should play in the national championship abou to heat up I decided to look at each AQ conferences win % and the Mwc.
These numbers were from 8 pm on Saturday and will change slightly. Big 10: .603 79-52 Big 12: .610 86-55 Big East: .544 49-41 ACC: .510 77-74 PAC 10: .554 61-49 SEC: .618 86-53 Mwc: .521 49-45 So by conference the mountain west has a better winning % than the Acc. And they are close to the PAC 10. It should be noted however that the PAC 10 has has 5 sub 500 teams and the mwc has 3. What do u think of these numbers?
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesall about scheduling; gotta look at who teams beat
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesOk who dis Oregon beat? Stanford at home and litteraly not one other top 25 team. Tcu beat utah on the road and played less sub 500 teams. My point is the scheduel argument is completely subjective And doesn't mean anything, the bcs is rigged and teams and fans get screwed
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrences
I wouldn't brag about beating Utah. They came in ranked because of their success the last couple of years and beat a highly ranked (and WAY overrated) Pitt at home early in the season. Oregon State hasn't set the world on fire, but they came in ranked high and TCU's early season win against them got TCU jump started in the polls. Same with Boise. Will be interesting to see how well OSU plays Oregon. I would give an edge to PAC 10 "top to bottom" vs MWC, mainly because the MWC has more horrible teams. I still think the SEC and Big 10 have provided their top teams with the biggest challenge week in, week out this year
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesDon't forget to factor out the home field adv of the bcs teams
Ohio state played their non conf games all at home Of any sport, college football is the most susceptible to hone field advantage. Here, bcs teams' winning percentages are skewed.
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrences
Big east plays 5 non conf Usual formula is 1 div1aa, 2 Mac teams, 1 cusa team , maybe an acc team or a lower end b10 Secures lots of wins Look at the non conf records for big east when they had the "great" rutgers team Espn routinely ranks MWC and WaC above acc and big east this year Strength of sch is overranked: so what if Tcu's (67) is lower by 10 spots to Ohio state (57) bc their "SOS" is lower All it means is that unmex is 130 and Indiana is 105 That lowers Tcu, but would either team have lost that game? Take the top 8 opponents and compare SOS. The other 4 are worthless
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesI'll be impressed with all this schedule and "who beat who" mumbo-jumbo when the "power" conferences put their money where their mouth is and actually enter the home field of some of these "lesser" teams in the "weaker" conferences and prove themselves worthy of the moniker. Until then, I ain't gonna budge - it's all crrrrrrrrap.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrences3/4th of those Big 10 non-conference victories are creampuff victories played at home

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesIMO all teams schedule some cream puffs. We did it (ala SFA, Northwestern etc.) and so do the rest of the major teams. Ohio St. prefers to play at home because the 'shoe is always sold out. Same for Bama and some of the other schools. At OSU you don't just buy tickets you inherit the right to continue buying them. If OSU went to Miami or another OOC school they would probably make a lot less money. That is one reason a lot of major schools don't want to play us at Ford.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrences
I agree!!!!!!!
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesWithout the home field advantage they enjoy all of these "big time" programs would not be nearly as successful as they are. SMU would be much more formidable at home if Ford Stadium was sold out for every home game. Even so, a home field with 32000 fans is not nearly the advantage that Kyle Field in CS or Memorial Stadium in Austin is.
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesUntil schools can offer an equal amount of revenue schools like Mich are not interested in playing in smaller environments. The 'house' usually has about 100k fans in it. If a TCU wanted to play Mich at home then offer them and equal amount of money that they would receive playing in their home staduim. We seem to be forgetting that the biggest factor is $$$$$.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesI'm a long-term proponent of the way the English play soccer - if you suck consistenyl you get relegated, regardless of geography. If you win consistently you move up a division, also regardless of geography. England sucks, but the EPL makes sense. I wish our conferences were moe fluid and would allow some aspects of this system. TCU, Boise and Utah would be playing in the Big 12, Big 10 and Pac 10 respectively, and Washington State, Iowa State, Northwestern would be relegated to the WAC, MWC and MAC. And I'd quit getting into arguments with TCU fans at bars over the injustices of the world.
Go Ponies. We've never lost the tailgate.
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrencesThat's a good idea but they also have a 'championship'. That would not be acceptable to the major powers.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Some interesting data about the major confrences
they might do it if the "cream puffs" could afford to host; the big boys can generate $3-5 mil gate revenue per home game. Why travel?
