Akron winThe women looked good tonight. A win against a good team is a good sign for the rest of the year. They cut down on the turnovers and made the big shots when it counted.
Re: Akron winBoth wins were against good teams. Arkansas State was a lot better than I thought they'd be. Maybe the best thing was that they were different styles (Arkansas State is athletic and pressed all night, while Akron was a more traditional team, with good outside shooters coming off screens). To beat them both speaks to our team's versatility
My thoughts: —> Christin Elliott is back. Remember when, as a freshman, she was showing signs of absolute dominance? Not consistent enough, but there were times tonight when Akron could do nothing to stop her. If she ever gets consistent, she will be CUSA Player of the Year. —> Filmore is a stud. She looks very calm with the ball in her hands, played good defense and hit some big shots (four 3s). I don't know if 18 is her career high on points, but she didn't seem bothered at all when the shot clock was winding down. Looked smoother than most sophomores do. Ice at the free throw line, too. —> Manesmith is coming along well, too. I thought this season would go as far as Delisha Wills, Christine and Haley Day could go, but Filmore and Manesmith look like capable scorers. Raquel Christian is a really nice spark, too ... very quick and a streaky shooter who can get hot. I thought there's no way this team wins 15 games after Al Severin, JB Samuels and Brittany Gilliam graduated. Now, I'm not so sure. Should be a fun team to watch.
Re: Akron winRhonda consistently does a good job with the ladies team. It's a shame we can't get even close to the same quality on the men's side. Maybe after this season when doh is gone.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Akron winI have always liked Rhonda so I follow her teams much more than the men's side
