Army Officials: Army Dallas Bound

Postby Stallion » Sun Nov 28, 2010 4:38 am

Although technically, Armed Forces Bowl is supposed to have choice over New Mexico Bowl, Army officials believe they will get bid over say BYU. Sounds like a deal was struck to trade teams

Good for Army. I would gladly go to that game and cheer for them against anyone but us.

If we play in that bowl I would much rather play BYU. However, either team would provide a great game.

Army in the "Armed Services Bowl", or SMU in Ford Stadium. Gee, I wonder which team would have the home field advantage ?

Good for Army. I grew up going to games @ West Point and I'm glad they're finally playing in the post season. I'll root for them hardcore unless they play the Mustangs. If that bowl is Army-SMU, I'm going to have to fly down for the game.

Agreed, BYU-SMU sounds more attractive than Army-SMU. Beating Army may be slightly easier than BYU, so it comes down to whether you want a win or the biggest "name" opponent possible.

I would rather have BYU in town but Army is a marquee name and millions will watch and SMU can show off their great facilities to the world. Whoever plays here, makes it a really big opportunity for SMU to showcase the whole campus and DFW in general.

If we lose, we need to play AFB, unless June would over rule that for Hawaii again?

The Army game would be televised all over the world, to all the troops in various corners of the world. That's kinda cool in its own right.

Also, Army might have the coolest uniforms in the NCAA right now. Sharp.

I just think seeing SMU play in a bowl game two years in a row after NOT for so long is pretty cool in itself - doesn't matter to me where or against whom.

The Abrams tanks will be rolling up I-35 (El Camino de Muerte de NAFTA) from Fort Hood (the largest military installation in the US).

Army v. SMU at Ford just doesn't do it for me...sorry. Give me Memphis, Hawaii, B'Ham, etc..anywhere but home..seems secondary / weak...doubt if the SMU alum base would show up to watch this..same 8 - 12m would make the scene, plus the Army draw, "maybe" 17,000 total, plus give-a-ways, round it up to 20m, tops. Yawn. BEAT CFU!!!

Tickets are already sold out. The Armed Forces Bowl gives away 7k tickets to Vets and currently active military and all of those are already claimed.
