Good to see your optimism hasn't faded!

3-8 or 4-7 this year.

.500 and a bunch of angry naysayers who won't have as much to complain about next year.

I think Sasserrules is about right. I'll say 2-3 wins this year, but a lot of improvement even in games we lose. Only one really lopsided loss (OSU). No other embarrassing losses this year. We'll still lose more than we win, of course -- optimism must be tempered with reality, of course -- but the improvement will be evident.

I'm even looking forward to sweltering on The Boulevard, I'm so excited for football to start.

No wins in NC games. Maybe two wins in the WAC. I hope for more.

2-9. I have been too optimistic for last two years though. I think I had us down for 3-4 wins last year. 2 may be optimistic this year. SMU will have the longest losing streak in college football before the drought ends. We will then get just a light sprinkel before starting a new one. It is hard being a Mustang fan.

1-10 with the win at home over SJSU. We can steal one from UTEP as well, depending on how things go with Mike Price as the new head coach. I want to say we can beat Rice, but they won 5 of their last 8, and they are a lot better than their 2003 record.

I think we beat San Jose and UTEP.
I don't think Rice is unbeatable, and like the Dallas Cowboys, Tulsa might have as good a team this year as last year, but the record won't be as good. Outside shot at beating Tulsa.
And because I live in Fort Worth, PLEASE beat TCU. We played them tough last year, so I don't think it's impossible. Not likely, but not impossible.

I think SJS, Nevada are the best possibles. UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, La. Tech are not unbeatable. Improved speed at linebacker should help against Rice. I think these young players will improve as the year goes on, so unless they mail it in, they have a chance for some wins late in the season. No OOC wins probably, but I sure would love to feed those Froggies a do do sandwich. Boise and Fresno will be hard to beat. On the whole I see 3 or 4 wins this year. SJS will be a very key game. If we don't win that game at home, it will be a long season.

I agree, the SJSU game is a must win. It's a shame it's coming a week after playing a team (OSU) that could quite easily hurt our pride, especially if the past two seasons are any indication of what is to come. Total score against OSU last two seasons 104-22.

Wouldnt that be something

We could easily have a good season if our guys work hard enough. We better be Nevada and San Jose State. Louisana Tech, Rice, UTEP and Tulsa are all beatable. I still believe we have a shot againist TCU also *prays*

That's a really good point. The years when we had the best success against that offense are the years when we had speed at the LB spot, guys who could chase from one sideline to the other. Adding Rico Harris, Avery Cleveland and Cory Muse adds a lot of speed. Wilton McCray, too, if he doesn't redshirt. And Reggie Carrington has nice wheels for a MLB. Those guys might be the key to beating Rice.

Nevada's beatable, as are San Jose, Tulsa, UTEP, and LaTech. I'm thinking that out of the six win-able games (including Rice), we win three. But we'll be in more games, if only because the team speed is better. The young guys will still make mistakes - sometimes a bunch of them - but we'll be getting to the ball faster. If nothing else, our boys will make their mistakes AROUND the ball, rather than falling 10 yards out of position because they can't keep up.

Cory Muse makes the DEs a faster group. Those guys I listed up above make the LBs a faster group. Getting more playing time from Anthony Barnett and Lindley (and Haynes?) make the secondary a faster group. The defense will be noticably faster this year.

I'd like to think we are ready to compete with San Jose, Rice, Tulsa, UTEP, Nevada and La Tech. With 4 of those games being played at Ford, I will go with 2-9. It's been a long time since SMU football has exceeded my expectations. Maybe this could be the year and this team can find a way to win 3-4 games. Gotta hope they aren't beat up and demoralized after the 1st 3 games. I do not see another winless season.

Phil Bennett gets it done with a 5-6 and the momentum going into CUSA in 2005. If he does this well, he is coach of the year. P.S. Includes a victory over TCU!

Yes!
