Great for Shawnbrey! I know Portis is out for the year, and Ryan Torain might be as well. Hopefully, he'll get the call up.

Keylon Williams is limping and others have not shown much. This could be a great opportunity for Shawnbrey.

I hope he has stayed in shape and is ready. The Skins desparately need a running back like Shawnbrey. That would be pretty cool to see McCann tackling him in a couple of weeks in Dallas.

Third team in 4 months. I wish him well and hope he gets a chance; however, the track record is not looking good for him as he has failed to impress 2 teams who were not exactly loaded with RBs and has apparently not impressed on special teams in spite of his speed.

This has to be his best shot at making a team. The Redskins backfield is in God-awful shape. They signed Willie Parker and Larry Johnson in the offseason. Parker didn't make the final roster, and Johnson was cut a few games into the season. With Portis' injury earlier in the season, Torain was making good use of his opportunity and now he's hurt. They have some no-name spares filling in now, and none of them are doing anything to write home about. As a Skins fan, I'd love for Shawnbrey to make it. But note that the Dan Snyder factor will destroy anything of value, so here's hoping he can turn the tide.

In addition, the team re-signed six practice squad players to future contracts.

RB Shawnbrey McNeal; WRs Taurus Johnson and Maurice Price; OTs Selvish Capers and Xavier Fulton; and DT Rashaad Duncan all signed

Coach Mike Shanahan has done plenty with far inferior talents to McNeal, so he'll be a player to monitor this offseason. Capers was Washington's seventh-round pick last April. Duncan is a needed big body at 6'2/315. Jan

Good to see Shawnbrey with at least a little job security.

I think Torrain is going to get the opportunity to start next year, but Shanahan did not hand him the job in the closing press conference. Keyland Williams also had some good plays. He said, he expected there to be a healthy competition at running back. Portis is probably done. Also, some have speculated that Shanahan will have a committee of running backs to shuttle in and out. Again, if SMcN can show something on special teams, he could earn a jersey next fall.

I'd like to see him come back to the team and speak to them about the importance of keeping your grades up and getting a college degree. He is an ankle-sprain away from being jobless, not to mention the possibility of a strike next season. Having said that, I wish him the best and hope he finds a long career in the NFL.

Wish he'd stayed another year - imagine what he and Line could have done together...
