Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still PossibleWhy would you say yuck to this idea? Its our most realistic and best case scenario. We aren't going to the Big East and really have no chance of being invited to an AQ conference as things currently stand. At least with this merger idea the winner is playing for a gauranteed BCS bowl birth. I see this as a good thing.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still PossibleIts not going to be a true merger-the goal I think is simply to have a playoff Championship Game. You could do that pretty easily if each conference had 10 teams. You could play a 9 game conference schedule with the Champion of each conference playing the other. That's looking pretty possible with the stated plans of the Big East

Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still Possiblehmmmmm. i really didnt think this scenario was still up in the air. i'm not sure what I think about it.

Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still PossibleAnything that could earn us a seat at a BCS game is fine with me. If it takes a full merger of CUSA with MWC and a few transfers or additions, so be it. I could envision a 24 team conference adding La. Tech and one other WAC team like NMS. Have four divisions which rotate games. East, South West, Mountain South, Mountain North. And years one through 4 East plays SW, MC vs. MN. In years 5-8, East plays MS, SW v. MN, In years 9-12 E v. MN, SW v. MS. and so on. Or you could even make it odd years. Add in a four team playoff for champions and then have the Championship game. I would work. I could create a lot of interest, continue intra division rivalries, allow western and eastern exposure for conference members. We're talking at most 2 games a year of long travel per team. For other sports, it might give us more opportunities to grow. For example UNM would then be in CUSA for soccer raising the conference profile. SDS would be in CUSA for baseball (and volleyball). It would take some adjustment, but some sort of merger would in my view be optimum.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still PossibleThe big question in a scenario such as this is the division of revenue. If a BCS bowl pays 17M and a CUSA-MWC team plays in it, how does that 17M get divided? It might be a decent solution short term but still falls short of a playoff with all D1 teams able to participate and all able to share in the revenue.
Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still Possible
Yes. You only do this to maximize revenue of schools and potential bcs bowl.
Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still PossibleI really like this scenario for the BCS bowl birth opportunity. However, I'm not sure how I feel about being in such a large "conference." Conference Championships would become a lot less frequent with so much competition. I'm assuming this would have a negative impact on recruits and their interest, but who knows.

10M to the conference that provided the "winner" and 7M to the other.

That bizarre scenario has every possibility of evolving into Dante's 10th Circle of Hell. ![]()
Re: CUSA Commish - MWC / CUSA Merger Still Possiblethere is no way a 24 team conference with inter-Divisional play with work. Championship showdown only
