Yes!

Go U, S-M-U
Look at how good the recruiting's been the last two years. If we go 5-6 this year, February's recruiting will go through the roof.
I'll take it!

Now does that include all possible uniform combonations, or just the particular one we are wearing? It'd be a shame to waste a candy-stripped vest. What would people climb the outside of the stadium wearing?

How sad is it when 3 wins exceeds your expectations--that is the reason I no longer have expectations.

I agree that there are six winnable games and we split them, plus we surprise someone for an extra - so 4 wins is my prediction. Nice progress but too late to do much for our recruiting this year.

However - we will then get some nice early committments based on the progress, modest as it is, together with an expanded JUCO push to fill the holes. Then in 05 basically the same team plus JUCO's lines up and plays an easier schedule the next year and gets 6 wins - including a prediction of a long awaited win over the Frogs at Ford (sorry - we got no shot playing them away this year, with them embarrassed about the closeness of last year).

We were a bad bounce, or a dropped ball on the 1 yd. line away from about three wins last year. While we lost a few good players last year, I can't help but think that every unit (QB, RBs, OL, WRs, TE, DL, LB, and DBs) will have improved over last year due to age, speed and experience. Some positions should improve by leaps and bounds.

Conversely, it seems like a lot of our opponents graduated a lot of talent: SJSU got picked clean, LA Tech lost McCown, Boise lost their great QB... That's just off the top of my head.

So I think three wins are in the bag. Four is what I expect (too bad Baylor isn't on the schedule, although they should be improved). Five or more and I'd be ecstatic.

I think the key will be how we perform in the first three games, and the team's attitude after playing those games. If we win one, the whole situation changes. If we don't win any, the team needs to maintain focus and win SJSU.

We do not want to get ahead of ourselves but I think that the analysis of last season by looking at close games may be more instructive than just saying we were a winless and totally hopeless team. The defense was average and was a few turnovers of winning a couple of games despite the offense. The offense has to be better desite losing KK.

So what does it mean? 2-6 wins? 3-5 wins? I'll go with 4 also.

Sorry guys but saying that we had some close losses lat year doesn't make me think any better of our chances this year. If the opponents didn't overlook SMU and play down to the competition last year, they never will. I doubt anyone really came into our game thinking they had to have a maximum effort to win. Until we win, most will be overconfident when playing us so we have a chance to sneak up on someone. It won't be anyone who is average or better though. 2 is an optimistic win column this year. I hope some of you never say die's are right but don't bet the house.
BTW --JT- Everyone has expectations. Unfortunately, ours are quite low.

Literally...Remember the UTEP game lord...Nobody close to him and he fumbles it on the 1 yard line and UTEP gets it

It is truly sad that the few SMU fans that remain can only be hoping for 2 or 3 wins every season. Hopefully one of these days, the administration will realize that this program will continue to wallow at the very bottom of all aspects of major college football until they decide that it is time to truly compete with other Div 1 teams. One thing is for certain, after the Tech home game to open the season this year, there will be plenty of good seats available for all Mustang home games. Meanwhile, our rival over in Ft. Worth will be averaging well over 30K a game and playing with a goal of going to a bowl game this year. What kind of goal will Bennett and his players set this year - win a game? It looks like another long, losing season is in store for the few Mustang faithful.

Whoever posted that is an idiot and has no idea what the Ponies had on the field last year or this. No, this isn't red/blue homerism. I'm just guessing that the poster couldn't name three players. He has no idea if we're loaded with freshmen or seniors, whether we had injuries last year, whether the sun rises in the east in Dallas. To make a prediction like that when so many new faces will be on the field this year is short-sighted and moronic. Personally, I think we'll win 2-3 games this year. I also think that the improved speed and strength will mean closer games in those games we lose. And I think these kids will only get better -- hell, some of them probably don't even shave yet. Will we win a lot in the future? Nobody can tell. But to suggest that we're going to go 0-fer again is as silly as to predict a top team will go undefeated. There are just too many vaiables at play.
