It looks like this year we'll go below .500 all time.

I forget when we used to winWe've had such a long record post DP of sub .500 seasons, and have had so many other periods of losing years too, that I am beginning to wonder when did we ever win enough to average this out to a break even at this point. We lost 8 of 12 years under Hayden Fry, we lost miserably before him and right after Don Meredith. I guess Doak , the 1935 team, and the pony express were the only times we won several years in a row. AND the future ain't looking too bright for 2004 or immediatley beyond either.
For what it is worth, from 1945 thru 1987 SMU's winning percentage was 51.79, Texas Tech - 51.28, Baylor - 50.54, A&M - 49.02 and TCU - 40.24. Teams like Kansas State and Oklahoma State have only recently had great records. 15 lousy years hurts the average badly, but I would be happy if the next 15 were well above .500 for just those next 15 years. The hell with the long term average. I'm sure Kansas State doesn't care about their long term average since 1915, because it is worse than ours is.
BTW, since 1945 to 2003 our percentage of wins is 45.84...TCU's is 44.38. Last edited by PK on Fri Jul 23, 2004 8:49 am, edited 1 time in total.

Wrong, we went below the .500 mark last year. That database is crediting us with 6 victories against TTech between the years 1990 – 1995 because Tech used ineligible players. We lost all 6 of those games, and by an average of more than 4 TDs per game. IMO, they are losses. SMU’s own media guide shows those games as losses.
OK, it's a slow time of the year, but thought this would be of interest.
WINNING PERCENTAGES Team................1945 -2003....1980 – 2003.....1989 – 2003 Oklahoma State...... 48.44.............50.36.............41.81 Baylor.....................48.12.............48.35.............41.12 Texas Tech..............46.20.............35.66.............32.96 SMU....................... 45.85.............44.98.............30.06 Kansas....................45.53.............41.58.............45.06 Duke.......................45.04.............32.46.............28.11 TCU.........................44.38.............47.07............55.78 New Mexico..............43.34.............40.25.............42.70 Rice.........................40.66.............36.84.............46.71 Iowa State ...............40.53.............37.96.............35.38 Oregon State............40.48.............31.55.............38.37 Tulane.....................38.39.............36.63..............37.21 UTEP........................36.11............26.88..............25.86 Vanderbilt................35.45.............28.65..............26.35 Northwestern............34.31.............31.07.............37.86
Re:That would account for the 6 games Texas Tech forfeited which we are ignoring on our official Historical list. That's fine, but I wonder if the other schools that lost to Tech during that time are doing the same thing?
