Utah, SDSU. Baylor, Air Force, SMU, Oregon St & BYU would be good games.

Why are we using Northwestern as the bellwether of the Big 10?

They only have quality losses and no quality wins; the best being that they only lost to Michigan St by 8. They just got schooled by Wisconsin this past weekend, giving up 70, and they lost to Illinois the week before, giving up 48. Illinois? Really?

NW has 7 wins over
Vandy 2-10
Illinois State NA
Rice 4-8
Cent Mich 3-9
Minnesota 3-9
Indiana 5-7
Iowa 7-5

Total 24 - 48

TCU 7 best wins
Oregon State 5-6
Tenn Tech NA (to make things equal)
Baylor 7-5
SMU 7-5
Utah 10-2
SDSU 8-4
Air Force 8-4
BYU 6-6

Total 51 - 32

Tell me who has beaten more quality teams this year - its not even close. (I do think NW would also beat New Mex, UNLV, Wyoming and Colo State.)

Like a donation to a real charity will help steer the conversation away from the original gaffe. HAH.

If anything, it's only additional fuel to the fire he lit. It's not going away any time soon. He's gonna have to live with it for quite a while - like from now on with any OOC non-AQ team that Ohio State has the misfortune to play.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

I think he is trying to make the case that TCU and Northwestern have similar football teams.

Trying to make the point and ACTUALLY making that point are two very different things. Northwestern is not as good as their 7 win record actually shows, and TCU would have a field day with them.

TCU would have been 11-1 in the big 10. They are just as good as the top 3 Big Ten teams this year IMO

NW is probably almost as good as Baylor this year. Who TCU beat 45-10. ( and probably could have beat 70-10 had they wanted to)

I have a fun fact about Gordon Gee.

This was when he was president (or chancellor) of the University of Colorado back in the 1980s.

You may recall the Burger King advertising campaign featuring an ultra-nerdy guy named Herb. They planned appearances for him at select franchises around the country and any customer who spotted Herb at a Burger King you would win some fabulous prize.

Mr. Gee strolled into a Burger King and was reportedly mistaken for Herb by more than one customer.

Northwestern lost their QB who was a contender for Big 10 Player of the Year. Last two games have been somewhat questionable. Very few Big 10 schools would get more than 250 yards Total Offense on TCU. I'm not sure any would get 350. Boise got 250 and 317 in last 2 games-if it hadn't been for that fake punt they would have been held below 300 both years. Only 2 teams got over 264 yards this season on TCU-. One got shutdown in crunch time on 8-27 passing and 1 completion over 10 yards for the entire game. The other one got a fluke double reverse QB pass but went almost 3 Quarters without a first down after TCU had 23 straight first downs. A bunch of 4th Quarter big plays when the game was seemingly out of reach allowed SDSU to get 300 yards. They humiliated every team on their schedule defensively at some point in the game

Should Auburn and Oregon do what each is favored to do, we'll know more Jan. 1, 2011 in Pasadena.

Nobody does the 5th quarter like the Red Army does.

Until then

You have to ignore injuries. They happen to teams every year, some are more detrimental than others, but it doesn't happen more/less between conferences. So that has no bearing on this discussion.

Illinois beats Northwestern 48-27. Illinois loses last night to Fresno St 25-23 (who is 8-4 overall, 5-3 in the WAC). The WAC is considered to be a weaker conference than the Mountain West, but let's presume they are equal.

So by this logic, Northwestern is not as good as a middle of the road WAC team, therefore they are weaker than TCU.
