Someone STOP Okie St!!

Postby LA_Mustang » Thu Jul 08, 2004 12:13 pm

They continue to invade Dallas Co. and take our top bball prospects. According to the DMN, DeSoto's Roderick Fleming (6'6" WF) orally committed to OSU yesterday. He joins South Garland's Terrel Harris as the second Texas top 10 player to commit to the Cowboys. And if you believe the rumors, Eaton is very close to committing to OSU. Dont these kids know that OSU is in the armpit of America, Oklahoma??

They also picked up probably the best player in Houston -and maybe in the state- Gerald Green. That's 3 top players in the state. Don't know how many scholarships they have left to give but hopefully they will run out before Eaton makes his decision.

According to the OSU website, there are four outgoing seniors who just finished their college careers in 2003-04. So unless they've already gotten someone from Oklahoma, they have one more 'ship to give (assuming they don't run off an underclassman or anything....)

And they just added one or two DeSoto football players.

Time to start calling them the "Metroplex Cowboys." (Sounds like the new name for that "other" Cowboys team, if Jerry Jones doesn't get Dallas to build his megaplex/amusement park/hotel/resort....)

Its a recruiting thread for football, basketball or any other sport. Mostly we discuss football here, but sometimes we talk about other sports. Okie $tate and Eddie $utton in particular have a bit of a reputation for well genero$ity. And if Dexter Manley is any indication of their academic regimen out there in Stillwater (he was illiterate when his eligibility ran out), I could see how some athletes might be drawn there.

I doubt that Eddie or Les have to pay players to get to get them from SMU (And I don't think SMU has ever been put on probabtion have they?). I think all they have to remind them of are:

52-16
52-6
89-54

But I would have to agree about the academic side. Every time I heard the eloquence of Eric Dickerson on MNF, I thought about what an endorsement that was for your fine bastion of academia.

That was a pretty funny retort. But give the man some credit--he was smart enough to con the A&M folks out of a Trans Am before commiting to SMU.

I don't see Dexter having to suffer with coaching an Underwear League game. Poor Eric, I wonder what those locker room pep talks are like.

This is going to keep happening until we can pull together a winning season. I just can't believe Okie State is the one doing it.

Manley has worked hard to learn to read (see his speech that he read to the Senate Literacy Subcommitte a few years ago). And by all accounts, he's been off drugs since his release from jail, and now is starting a treatment program in DC. Rather than blast him for getting through OSU without being able to read, I'd rather blast Jimmy Johnson for letting him skate through -- and earn a degree -- without bothering to make sure he could read.

tulsapoke, crawl back under the rock that shaded your little brain. Of course the coaches don't pay them. They have other sources which do it for them, and they remain "ignorant" of any of it. Same goes for ut a$m, and a list as long as my arm. Top athletes have been getting "paid" for just about forever. I can go back to ucla and Jackie Robinson. I mean no disrespect for the man. He was a great and heroic figure, but it is/was well know that while Jackie was at ucla, he drove around in a new car, which he could suddenly, somehow afford. Hmm. I knew of a certain John Williams who played at Crenshaw High in Los Angeles. He was a giant among the other kids. He signed with lsu. Suddenly, his mom moved into a new house, with a new job, and a new car. Hmm.

Yes, stillwater is a pit. But osu is in the bcs cartel. They are part of a major conference with a lot of tv exposure, protected by state legislature,(with a fairly healthy athletic budget) and the big $$$ schools that control the joke known as the ncaa.

I know, and most folks on this board know that SMU has much to offer, but we still face a huge battle. Let's get our siutation better and move on. Maintain Pony Pride.

Go Ponies!
