Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsAnd, shock-surprise-dismay, expects SMU to lose on Saturday to UCF and end up in the Armed Forces Bowl while making all sorts of hopeful statements that UCF will finally win the Liberty Bowl against a mediocre SEC team. Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsAs a someone without an axe to grind(?) what would you expect his prediction to be?

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
Since Tulsa has not been invited to the Hawaii Bowl - I imagine it will be SMU - not announced until after the game. Tulsa can enjoy Dallas, Tejas.
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsit liberty or armed forces it has been decided already
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsUCF may have the Hawaii option when they lose tomorrow which would explain nothing being announced yet.

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
I was thinking the same thing. The conference traded the NO Bowl bid to the WAC for the New Mexico Bowl bid which went to UTEP so these are the tie-ins left (dependent on the C-USA winner which won't be known until around 3 PM Central Saturday). Scenario 1-SMU wins C-USA Liberty Bowl-SMU Hawaii Bowl-UCF Armed Forces Bowl-Tulsa Scenario 2-UCF wins C-USA Liberty Bowl-UCF Hawaii Bowl-Tulsa Armed Forces Bowl-SMU They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
1) I must have missed the trade involving the NM and NO bowls. 2) Wouldn't it make more sense to send Tulsa to Hawaii rather than UCF?
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
1) UTEP accepted a NM bowl bid today, WAC takes the NO Bowl if LA Tech can beat Nevada, if not then that bid is filled by an at-large (likely from the MAC as they have 6 eligible teams and only 3 tie-ins) 2) Makes sense, Tulsa has been to the Armed Forces Bowl before and hasn't been to the Hawaii Bowl (the reverse is true of UCF) and Tulsa is closer to Hawaii than Orlando. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsugh, this topic alone made me want to puke.

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
I agree. So if SMU wins tomorrow, why not send UCF to Dallas and Tulsa to Hawaii?
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
Now that I really have thought about it, that scenario could happen, haven't heard it brought up before though because pretty much everyone is assuming that UCF will win tomorrow and for months it has been assumed that we'd be headed for the Armed Forces Bowl. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowls
True, but is Dallas just rewards for the West Champs?
Re: Houston sports writer reflects on Houston & Rice & bowlsAt 7-6? Probably.
