McKinsey Report: 42-44% of Rice Athletes Major- Kinesiology

.....to answer the question posed below 42% in 2001 and 44% in 2003 of Rice athletes had declared Kinesiology as their major. And remember the number of athletes at Rice constitute something like 10% of the entire student body at a school with such a small enrollment. Once again the people who argue against broading the curriculm at SMU (a) don't know factually what the hell they are talking about and (b) don't know what it takes to compete at the Division 1A level.

A) Who argued against broadening SMU's curriculum?

B) Aren't you the person who constantly uses (on Ponyfans) the Rice football and men's basketball programs as examples of going the longest (decades) without winning any championships or accomplishing anything significant?

Besides baseball, what big difference has having between 42% and 44% of its athletes major in physical education made for Rice's (football and mens' basketball) "revenue sports"...to use your words "compete at the Division 1A Level"?

As Cheesesteak points out, having a Kinesiology major available is not a cure all. The use of JUCO players is not a cure all either, as San Jose would serve as an example. Having said that, I think having a Kinesiology or similar major available would give the coaches one more option to help them with recruiting...including getting Juco players when we need them. More important than what degree programs are available, what has hurt us the most is a recent history (15yrs) of sorry football and basketball records and of course THE PYE MODEL which helped produce the said sorry records.

It is important that our teams start producing wins and likewise, it is important that our fans increase their support of the teams. We ALL KNOW that our OOC games are going to be tough and probably not result in wins. So why do so many fans knowing a head of time that the beginning of the season is probably going to be ugly throw in the towel after the first three games and stop coming to the games and support the team through the games they do have a chance to win. Do you think the players don't notice that the fans have abandoned them. Someone in another post stated that we have no home field advantage...and he is right. Without a large number of loyal fans showing up to support the teams, we will never have a home field advantage. So get your acts together and come to every home game and scream your lungs out for these kids. Thanks.
