Young team guys!

Postby DaStang » Sat Dec 04, 2010 3:40 pm

Guys, I understand losses suck but let's put this season into perspective. Kyle Padron has got what it takes. Yes he holds the ball way too long and makes some bad decisions on some throws, but as far as talent, and physicality Kyle has got it. He is still a sophomore guys. We only lose 4 senior starters!! We got what every scouting site says is a very solid recruiting class. Line is a sophomore and has already has had the 3rd best season of any SMU back. We Also have a future all star return man and big play back in Fields. As long as we have receivers continue to step up we are going to be pretty potent offensively. We WILL get it down eventually. Just a matter of time. All of you who dog our young offense every chance you get need to just be patient. We sucked for two decades. Look at what we have done in just two years!

As far as the defense goes we have to get some corners who want to play. If anything worries me it is our secondary situation. But thats all comes down to recruiting. We need to get some guys who shut it down and want to hit. We basically need to get clones of Moore and keep them healthy. He can cover and is not afraid to knock your helmet off. Same thing with our linebackers. In a 3-4 you need players at linebackers. They have to be complete in all aspects: run stopping, coverage, and pass rush. JD is only a sophomore and a big hitter. He fast, mean and brings that 'energy' that a defense needs. Defensive line is still developing but I like what I see. Just continue to develop those big ends and we'll get there. And don't forget about Devon Mooreland. This guys is going to make a huge impact on the defense. He is fast, tall, and has extremely long arms. Either put about 40 lbs on the guy and let him destroy from the end, or drop him back as an outside LB/End hybrid much like JD and set him lose. There is a reason he was being heavily recruited by the 'big boy's. Getting a commit like that just shows that June knows how to recruit and build some depth. More will follow.

I am never happy losing any games, but I am eternally grateful that we are not looking at a 4-6 or
3-7 and no shot at a bowl. But for god's sake we need to fill those stands and get our players jacked up for every game!! And put together an awesome intro vid. I hate to say it but it is a little lame.

We lose some key players next year so we may not get to the championship game. I think it is okay for everyone to express frustration because who knows when or if we get back to a conference championship game. We had our chance today.

Of course it's frustrating. But after seeing Pony Excess and being reminded of the past, I am glad to be out of the Tate Wallis days into bowl-game winning seasons.

Team is improving. We'll be hosting the title game in no time. Houston, Tulsa, UTEP don't scare me.

It's not about fear, it's about talent. Right now we're not as talented as any of those teams.

I disagree. While I hate to see Aldrich and Sterling go, our lines return virtually intact and Padron will have another year of experience. Also our depth continues to grow each year as we will should have strong red shirt and freshman classes to draw from. The primary concern will again be our defensive secondary so we will just have to wait and see how that pans out. Otherwise, to me, the future looks very bright.

I agree future is bright. But with a harder conference and non conference schedule next year and the loss odd Al, Sterling, Fleps, and Yenga I just hope we make it to a bowl game next year. With that being said, a win over Army would be good for recruiting. :D

I don't think this is a Mavs '06 finals situation where they had one shot and failed to take advantage of it.
I view this as the first of multiple trips to the championship game. I'm not thrilled with the result. But I do expect the team and coaches to learn something from today and improve.

I believe that next year we have a great chance to make it back. I'm more worried about 2 years from now when we lose our entire o-line and taylor thompson on d

Next years schedule is extremely tough...with the way recruiting is going, we will be fine the following year. It's next year we will have to fight through. Hopefully the fans are ok with us making it to a bowl game and struggling another season to get into the con championship again.

If I'm wrong, and somehow we do make it again, I will be the happiest pony fan here

I think the schedule is going to be a little easier then people think. TCU loses 15 starters next, I will be pretty disappointed if we do not beat them. UCF loses 9.

EDIT Starters lost by teams on our schedule next year- Tulsa 6, USM 6, UTEP 14 , Tulane 6, Rice 7, Houston 6, Memphis who cares, Navy 14, A&M 5, Memphis and Northwestern State doesn't matter.

We return our entire O-Line next year but wemight have a new starter or two because there is some talent in the underclass men. we return seven starterson D, I know we lose some playmakers but I can't imagine that a unit with 7 starters returning won't be beter. even withthe tougher schedue I think A&M, TCU and Houston are the only really tough games next year and I expect a win in at least one of those

we return the OL and DL and will have more young backups ready to contribute. That's huge. Will have competition at most positions, including QB. Future looks bright to me.
