If the Big East...

Postby Stallion » Sat Dec 04, 2010 9:51 pm

had a representative at that game today and they are seriously considering more expansion then I think they just punched their ticket to the BCS. They have an excellent game day in stadium experience. I would give them an A+ but they didn't quite sellout. But their fans-all of them-put SMU fans to shame. They get wild in the Student section but they are just about as raucuous in the season ticket areas. They get up for the second half when SMU fans slumber through a siesta. I've been to the home stadiums of about 10 of the top programs in the country and these guys were probably as raucous as your going to find for 45,000 especially with the early kickoff. Very impressed with their fans. Definitely had a big-time atmosphere and its probably just going to get better. They are a BCS take in the near future

How many fans would have been at Ford today if we hosted?

I say over/under is 22,000.

If we hosted a C-USA BB Championship game at Moody, I think we would come close to a Sell-Out

I too was impressed by the crowds in the stands from my television viewpoint. They were having fun like at an English Premier League match. However I'm thinking some of that would have quieted down somewhat if Padron had connected with Robinson on that first missed opportunity; would have made it a tie game... Overall kudos to the UCF fans for representing CUSA and good luck to them in Memphis

I was surprised to see a number of empty seats based on the pregame hype of ticket sales, free tickets for large student body, great weather, and a program that has been winning.

I suspect that is SMU had 50k students like UCF we could fill Ford pretty well.

True, but that is not the point. The point was that a BCS conference will be impressed with a large loud turnout as opposed to a small quite turnout. The reasons are irrelevant to a BCS conference. We may get invited to a BCS conference someday, but it won't be because of the way our fans turn out or act. At least not the way they have the last few years.

As far as the BCS, they wouldnt care if you had crickets in the stadium as long as you had a large tv audience

Our fans will learn to better fans - we have lost a generation to eneptitude. We will never be huge since we are a small school - but we can be louder and more supportive for sure. It will get better each year also.

I think UCF has had that kind of fan base for years now.

As far as losing a generation of fans.........Alyssa says that a generation of a fan base should be counted as every 4,5, or 6 years. So from '87- 2007 before JJ arrived would be about 5 generations of fan base. That's a lot of freshmen to senior year groups to cycle through SMU before the U decided to make football important again.

agree; they had a great crowd, great presentation that kept the crowd "engaged". Yes, they have 5 times the students we do, but I was envious.

Tons of potential there and Big East would be well served to add another FL school to supplement USF. I expect it to happen and we will miss these guys.

Fun road trip.

I'm not a regular poster here really, but I gotta tell ya I am sick to death about hearing the whining about our fans. Winning = fans

That's the end.

Hollywood, that simply was not the case during our Pony Express days.

I am pretty certain I read where UCF has the 3rd largest enrollment of all schools.........anyway, even in our Pony Express Glory days we were outnumbered when it came to playing ut, a&m, tt, etc. and that should be expected. I have been to one Cowboys game back in the 80's and you could hear a pin drop in Texas Stadium-------their fans back then were the ultimate too good to make noise/cheer. While we won't ever have the student turnout that UCF did b/c of our size, it would be great if the majority of the student body attended the games and stayed for the whole game. Even if neutral people in Dallas start coming to our games, I don't know that they would cheer. I agree that winning will help boost our attendance and I, as an alum, am realizing that I need to look into buying some season tickets.
