that size and weight might project as a MLB, but that 4.75 time in the 40 suggests DE is the right place for him. Most guys gain weight once they get on campus, so you have to wonder if he would and along with a few extra pounds, would that 40 time increast to 4.8 or more? What are D.D. Lee's and Reggie Carrington's times in the 40? Anyone know? When you consider most of our current DEs came out of H.S. in the 200-225 lb range, this would be a step in the right direction. I see Lucky DeLay is now listed as a 265 lb DT. Didn't he come out of H.S. as a 240 lb DE? At 6-3, 255 Charlie Berry is the biggest DE on our roster
By the way I think Charlie came in as a defensive tackle - and they have now moved him to end due to his decent speed, and the tackle position has gotten a bit more solid. That is a really good sign - if we are getting up to 250 at end with some speed, instead of our typical, 220-230, "came in as a linebacker but too slow to play there" defensive end of the past.
If Berry's really at 250 and playing end, you're right - it's a great step in the right direction. After sweating off the pounds in August workouts last year, he played DEFENSIVE TACKLE last year against Texas Tech at about 230 pounds, and not surprisingly, had a long day. He fought hard, but was just too small to play the position. If he can stay around 250 at end and maintain his quickness, Charlie Berry could be a really nice surprise.
He was listed at second string DE (behind Melvin Williams) coming out of spring ball.
