thanx PK, you're exactly right...

until the bcs-bs is GONE, free & clear, there will forever be two classes within division 1 football...the 'haves' & 'have-nots' & it will show its ugly head in games won, recruiting, revenue, etc.

face it - this was the first step in creating the super conference many within the bcs-bs have always wanted... & until its killed & put away with for good - like it should be - we like our other non-bcs-bs brethren will be second class citizens within division 1 always wanting to compete!

like it or not, that is division 1 college football today!

so either we fight it or go find another sport to support.

hate to be 'negative' but if we are to compete even-handedly with all the other div 1 schools, let's either go back to the old bowl system which is far fairer than what we have now or a playoff...let's just be honest about!!!

Let's win a game first, then move toward a winning season, then we can start worrying about who's who. At this point we don't deserve to be where we are. We are about the worst Div- 1-A football team in the Country. And for the record, I think a non-BCS team will only go to a BCS bowl if (1), they are undefeated and (2), they beat a top tier BCS team (not Northwestern, not Baylor, not Duke, not Vanderbilt). If a non-BCS team beats Georgia, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, UVA, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin or Michigan then they will get noticed. Otherwise, they'll get downgraded.

missed the whole point 'eaststang'...

doesn't have anything to do with winning 'one' game...

if that was the case, we would never get into the bcs-bs based on our school size, crowd attendance & competition, etc...

we're talking about ALL division 1 programs competing equally based on their qualifications as a division 1 college football program...

the way you're saying it - you're giving 'legitimacy' to the bcs-bs & that's what we're fighting against - the whole damn exclusionary concept ( super conference) ...that's totally unacceptable!

go back to the back of the class - son

we will never have an opportunity to compete again on an equal basis - plain & simple!!!

where are our leaders to fight this monopoly??!!

whimps!!!

Yep, the BCS is headed towards being semi-pro ball because the leader
schools are looking for the MONEY to keep their programs in the black,
and at the same time satisfy their 70,000+ RABID fans per game attendance that will have heads roll if they don't win.

It is a MONOPOLY, and we will be DOOMED along with most of the other non BCS schools to the upcoming newly defined next lower tier in NCAA competition in ALL sports if someone doesn't fight this in COURT as a monopoly soon.

Quote from Stallion:

I read that too and was immediately concerned that an athletic director could feel so proud of his accomplishments with a tenure of what 8-9 years(?) and a (a) Football Team at O-12, (b) a BB Team which had never reached the NCAA Tourney or won a league or conference tourney championship and (c) a FB team which has never won a championship or gone a bowl or had better than single 6-5 winning season. Great Job Big Jim-you haven't proved SMU is doing it the right way when both the SMU FB team and BB team have accomplished NOTHING during your TENURE.

Reply:

I've been very critical of Copeland in past posts, but I didn't see that he was boasting of any accomplishments in that update. TENURE is something I can say GOOD of him. Thats what he's got going for him. I think he's lasted longer at good ol smoo than all the ADs since I graduated in 76.

What scares me is that he has instructions from up above to gradually
be the pilot to land us smoothly in that new second tier NCAA level which will be created in the next few years.

good grief 'plano':

"What scares me is that he has instructions from up above to gradually

i couldn't have said any better - YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT!!

it is scary & i'm afraid you're absolutely right!!!!

furthermore -

also plano...(if u are right?!)

being a 2nd-tier university - containually losing in dallas - will then get u fewer crowds ever sliding continually downward into a financial sinkhole!!!

since we're then competing for the entertainment dollar which is becoming more & more difficult with a loser, the bureaucratic fools can then blame everything on the alums for their lack of support - but hey!!! does anyone want to throw $$$ at a perennial loser!!! NO WAY SKYKING!!

then the administration is off the hook with their mediocrity & then can drop or slide the football program (& eventually the whole damn athletic program) into div II or III status blaming the lack of support on us - the alums & supporters of SMU!!!!

bureaucratic fools!

God- willing i hope u are not right - plano!!!

but then again - where are the lawsuits against the bcs-bs!!!??? why are they trying to adjust it for the losers like (us)!!! is it here to stay??!!! where is the administration - alias leaders! u fight the bcs-bs & you'll get all the donations u ask for!!!

something tells me they've accepted defeat & the bcs-bs is here to stay!!! in other words, they just keep receiving their 6-digit income salaries & then eventually they retire!!!! who gives a %^%$ anymore!!!!

Furthermore the FB teams at Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, Baylor, Stanford, Wake Forest, etc. get a get out of jail free card, despite being private. BCS cash is the difference long term.

BCS didn't create nor is responsible for our circumstances, but long term, consistent success does require access to the revenue.
