I was hoping this was the case as well, but I've been told the number of season ticket holders that actually bought their tickets for the bowl game was extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY low. I hate the excuse that this a Thursday day game, yada yada. I'm sympathetic that we all have to work, but it is time to get your priorities straight SMU fans! If you want to play big time athletics it's time to act like a big time program and support the team no matter where or when we play. Millions of college fans, the majority of which I would assume don't have the econimc means of an average SMU fan, somehow support their teams at home AND away and can make it to conference championship games and bowl games on short notice. Make SMU a priority generic SMU fan, or don't [deleted] when we're passed over again and again for better bowls and conferences.

I didn't realize that tickets were on sale to general public yet. Thought it was just for season ticket holders. I will purchase mine today.

I know the allocation of student tickets (sales) hasn't been opened up, so that should count for something. For those former students coming home for the holidays what a great event to get the family or friends together for the holidays...better than a movie at Northpark and not that much more expensive! Brats and Bloody Rita's for breakfast on the BLVD.

Anyone can place an order, season ticket holders get priority for seat selection and if demand was greater, first chance to buy SMU's allotment. Part of the problem is the way SMU has disseminated the information. They should have just said everyone order and downplayed the priority system.

Sorry, but this looks like its a huge problem, hence the frank numbers given by Orsini/Jones. Students aren't going to account for hardly anything, bank on it. Our school is in state/out of state 60/40, and almost everybody goes home, why come back early before rush or school starting. Besides, students aren't the problem and they aren't going to fix our problem.
Alumni are our problem. Walk-up sales are our problem. We appear to have a big problem.
This is a very small sample size, but Dutch will have bought 10, I bought 10, and BUS bought 10...that's 3 people, all of whom fall well within the expected purchased demographic buying a big number of tickets...sure doesn't bode well for what we want, a large volume of ticket purchasers making small purchases.
Oh, by the way, as I know it the USMA has, or had, a 12,000 member waiting list for tickets. Looks like we'll have plenty of extras we can give them.

so, all this being said, I guess the [deleted] about playing in Hawaii where no one could go was unfounded, since no one's gonna go anyway...so next time can we go back to Hawaii?

stats can tell whatever story you want them to. that could mean that EVERYONE that is a Black Knight Athletic Supporter (don't know what they're called) is considered a 'member' on a list, like saying every mustang club member is on a waiting list - they're waiting to buy tickets until later i think its safe to say that whining about it on here is preaching to the choir. WE are obviously the people who are most passionate about the team, so saying these gripes here does no good, i take it as my duty to buy 10 tickets and get them in the hands of those marginal fans/alums who we need to take a greater interest so that in the future we're not having this discussion.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I fall into that category as well. As soon as I saw this thread I made the call to get my tickets. The statement that priority was in place until Friday at 5PM gave me the impression that I wouldn't be able to buy tickets until next week.

We really need to get somebody to do some marketing. How can we put butts in the seats if there is no promotion of the game or a lot of confusion regarding how and when to buy tickets.

Power to the people, there's +2 with a little information. Would be nice if SMU could grab 4 or 5 of the students who just call the alumni a-z and ask for donations and have them ask if they've bought tickets...buying a ticket is a donation, of sorts. Certainly couldn't hurt...

I just went on SMUmustangs.com to try and get tickets and the only tickets available were General Admission..What gives?

Buying tickets and not showing up doesn't help all that much. We need the people to be in the stands supporting the team in front of a national audience. Yes we want to show we can sell our allotment, but the bowl committees want their bowl games to have full stadiums on game day too.
Marketing for this game is pathetic. Perhaps they think the AFB people are going to do all the marketing...or perhaps the bowl people don't want anyone else marketing their game. SMU ought to at least be e-mailing every alum they can and emphasize the importance of showing up.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
