I just went on SMUmustangs.com to try and get tickets and the only tickets available were General Admission..What gives?

Not sure what the deal is, but evidently if you try to get your tickets online, it directs you to ticket masters or some such place. I'm just guessing here, but I think in order to get some of the 10,000 alloted tickets you have to go through the SMU ticket office. I may be way off, but that's what I think is happening.

I get enough crap through email, by phone, and in the mail from SMU to comfortably state that the school could do quite a bit to help boost ticket sales. I know in the end this is a single event for the school, but I'd argue the importance of it is higher than most others.

A couple of thoughts:
I have been receiving numerous e-mails from SMU about the bowl game tickets. On top of that I went up to the ticket office the other day because I was having a difficult time reaching a person to order tickets from and the young man at the window said they had new calls coming in every minute to order tickets. He also held up a long sheet of hand written paper and said it was his ever growing list of people to call back that he kept pulling off of his voicemail. I imagine once they get through all of these people, they will begin calling season ticket holders on an individual basis to offer tickets.

While I agree, many season ticket holders passed on the opportunity to purchase AFB tickets earlier in the year, it is important to realize that almost all season tickets are in the AFB initial allotment, including the premium seats, that they sold and not in the area SMU and Army are being given. My guess is that almost all of the premium seat owners purchased their tickets and that indeed some SMU fans optioned to have their seats for the bowl game before the cut off as well, which will take away from our allotment sales.

It is important to recognize that this game is not run by SMU. While it is on our campus and thus hard to imagine that SMU is not in control of the event, the stadium has esentially been rented out by someone else and they are putting on the event and they call the shots. In other words, we don't know exactly what is going on behind the scenes and what SMU is being told they can or can not do by the AFB committtee. I'm not even sure if SMU will put out the yard signs for this game, which I do think would be a shame. I do think there are some things that SMU should be doing better, but let's give them a chance to improve over the next few weeks.

I have to admit that I haven't checked my e-mail in several days so there are probably a few from SMU. The other side of the story is that the ticket office is pretty well overwhelmed. If every order included 4 tickets, that would be 2500 orders to take in and if you are trying to do that in 5 days, that is 500 calls a day. They do not have the staff to cover that many calls a day. They may have set themselves an over ambitious schedule. So some patience on our part would not be out of order.

I had already order tickets but added another one recently. Both times I had little to no difficulty getting through.

I didn't purchase my Season ticket option because I wanted to order through SMU (help the cause so to say).

I am very excited about seeing SMU in a bowl. It has been since the Cotton Bowl ('83).

I hope the SMU fan base comes through and sells out 10,000 allotment.

All JJ can do is win until conference realignment. All I can do is purchase tickets and attend.

I doubt the AFB Bowl put any restrictions on us marketing our allotment to our alumni and stakeholders.

From everything I've been told, there isn't some backlog artificially pushing down the sales numbers.

I think part of the problem is with 20+ years of losing, the sense of urgency amongst the non hard core SMU fans is very low because they've always been able to get a free ticket from one of us or walk up to the box office 10 minutes before game time and have their pick of seats.

I knew a few people who expected to walk up before the TCU game and snag a ticket, and they had to learn a hard lesson. It's hard to solve this particular problem, but it would help if SMU sent out a clear email to all SMU alum telling them to go ahead and buy and priority points will determine where their seats are allocated.

FYI the redshirt corner that June was talking about is Der'Rick (sp?) Thompson from Troup, TX. Kid tore his ACL before his senior year in high school but was an absolute beast his junior year.

The seats will be allocated after Friday 5pm. They say GA for now until your account is assigned a specific seat location.

Like the way you think....Maybe we can talk SW into sponsoring the field and we give people at the blvd #s instead of tickets to get them to the ticket gate early....first come first serve..

Maybe Pony Excess will inspire some slumbering alums to get out to the game. One can hope, I guess.
