They make the AQs out to be the victims of the current system! http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/1 ... han-youre/"Don't push it past this because if you push it past this, the Big 12's position is we'll just go back to the old (bowl) system," Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe told FanHouse. "You're getting the ability to get to places you've never gotten before. We've Jerry-rigged the free market system to the benefit of those institutions and a lot are institutions that don't even fill their stadiums."
"The six (BCS) conferences have bent over backwards and tried to be politically correct to their own detriment, probably further than they had to, maybe should have," Scott told FanHouse.
"The BCS has provided greater access," Benson said. "Look at 120 schools, 11 conferences and to establish opportunities for those student-athletes. To play on the big stage, we've been to the big stage. ...
"The problem," Delany interrupted, "is your big stage takes away opportunities for my teams, to play on the stage they created in 1902."

Ignorant. the "old system" would have had a place for undefeated TCU...Orange Bowl or Cotton Bowl or Sugar Bowl. Ditto Boise.
How does he think Miami played Nebraska in Schnellenberger's big game?

Not if TCU had been in the old WAC with BYU, Utah, and Air Force - they would have landed in the Holiday Bowl, ala BYU in 1984? 83?, who won a "National Championship" after beating a 7-4 Michigan team. They would have never sniffed one of the big four, much less the Rose Bowl.
Miami is a rare exception. Before BSU went to the Orange Bowl, the only non-AQ schools to have gone to one of the Big 4 bowls in, like, 40 or 50 years, whether you include the Cotton or the Fiesta, were SMU and a Howard Schnellenberger-coached Louisville team, and Louisville is AQ now. Utah and TCU will be in the coming years.
Even a MAC or possibly a Sun Belt team could make the Rose Bowl now - or at least the possibilty exists. That has not been the case, at all, for years. So, yes, in some very tanglible, important ways the BCS absolutely has improved things for minor programs.
It hurts me to say this, but there is truth to this: BCS Schools created BCS money - not the other way around.

The money would have been there no matter what the system is.
So whether you fill your stadium is one of the criteria for a national championship. That is only the case in Div 1 football and is wrong. This confirms what we all know, this is about money not determining the best team in college football.
Someone of something needs to take these arrogant SOBs down.

You know these BCS guys have to be mad as hell that 8-4 UConn is in a BCS bowl while Michigan State and Stanford have to go elsewhere...but they can't voice that publicly so they attack undefeated TCU.
They are having a tougher and tougher time trying to defend this garbage, getting more creative with their verbage and coming up with new reasons why certain teams can't play in the big bowls. First, it was "well, here's our rating system...sorry you aren't ranked high enough", but now its "well, you're ranked high enough, but its not fair to our other teams that you get a spot there, since OUR conference helped establish these bowls".

Ohhhh, that's a fun game!
Fiesta woulda been OSU vs. Boise State. They'd sell some tix to have Gee eat his words! Orange would pit Oklahoma vs. Va Tech - Oklahoma beat NU. Rose = UO vs. UW Sugar would be Auburn vs. Stanford - Sugar would go after hightest rated team to play #1. Cotton would be A&M vs. Michigan State. Holiday: TCU vs. who cares? It's the Holiday Bowl! But I'd say, uuummm, Arizona. Need a local team to bring fannies. Maybe Nevada - that'd be a good game.

And since there would have been no need to keep TCU out of a national title game, the NCAA could have been more harsh on Auburn.

You all forget that in the old days Bowl Invites were being given before the season ever finished!
You can moan all you want but many many years No. 1 never actually played No.2.
However a plus one after the Bowl Season would be better than the Cylon's present plan.
