He did. Channel 8's Gerry Oher caught A&M QB Kevin Murray in one of the funniest moments ever in Sports Broadcasting. He showed Murray a signed lease agreement to a 280Z or something. Murray puts his hand to his cheek and says "Oh my gosh" And literrally rips it out of Oher's hand and runs off. Belo and the Times Herald nailed TCU too and Kenneth Davis along with 6 others who were kicked off the team. Wacker's famous meeting with the TCU team was the direct result of a newspaper story earlier in that week that the NCAA was on the SMU campus meeting with SMU players concerniong violations about the exact players who were kicked off TCU's team-including Egypt Allen , Kenneth Davis and Gerald Turner(?). I haven't seen Pony Excess yet but I hope they captured the essence of the newspaper war along with Belo that literrally resulted in probations at SMU, TCU, Tech, Oklahoma St, Houston, Texas, Baylor, Arkansas, OU and A&M. It is not accurate that SMU was the only school caught-there maybe something to the argument that SMU was caught in the middle of a media war.
Agreed on the other schools involvement, hopefully that is mentioned. SMU was competing financially with the others and wound up in the crosshairs. I've always wondered if they would have said "yeah you caught us, but what about these other schools" if they would have received the death penalty instead of covering it up. On another front, any truth to the rumor that Bob Hitch made off with the slush fund and that it totalled about $10 grand?
