No OK here's the deal. In the 1970s there were 2 signing dates. One was SWC Signing Date which settled most recruiting battles-it was a big deal for SWC players. But then even if they signed the SWC Letter of Intent you still had to sign them to an NCAA Letter of Intent the next week and fight off OU and other foreigners. Ron Meyer's first big headline grabbing signee was Billy Don Jackson from Sherman-No. 1 Recruit in the Country-who then broke SMU's heart by signing at UCLA the next week. I think it was during Meyer's first full recruiting Class 1976.

Can you imagine the bidding wars that went on between SWC schools and OU during that interim week between SWC Signing Date and the NCAA Signing Date

Didn't we recruit bosworth during that time. I remember him on the front of SI with that white corvette thinking, there is no way he bought that himself.

He committed to SMU immediately after that SMU/Arkansas Game in 1982 replayed last Nite. But he decommitted several weeks later or after Meyer left for the NFL-can't remember which is more accurate.
