As background, in this state, the Beloved Razorbacks would be playing for their 103rd consecutive National Championship if it weren't for the horrible officiating.

All you need to know is this was a vehicle for this writer to blame the officiating some 28 years ago.

ESPN’s 30 for 30 went out on top Saturday night.

Thaddeus D. Matula’s Pony Excess, on the SMU football program, earned a 1.8 rating (1,843,000 million homes, 2.517,000 viewers) according to Nielsen. It’s ESPN’s most-watched documentary of all-time.

Thanks to the Hesiman Trophy presentation lead-in, Pony Excess edged out The U (1,801,000 homes, 2.368,000 viewers) and The Best That Never Was (1,760,000 homes, 2,229,000 viewers).

Overall, the 30 for 30 series averaged a 1.0 rating (958,000 homes, 1,193,000 viewers).

I don't know how it affects the ratings, but rest assured "Pony Excess" is also being seen around the world! The Armed Forces Network (AFN) has been airing the documentary a few times the past week on the sports channel. I was lucky enough to get back to my quarters in time to catch all but the first 15 minutes of it.

All I can say is AWESOME! I am proud as heck to be a Pony. The ending was spectacular and I loved the reactions of the Hawaii bowl win on ED and all the other former players of that era. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful documentary that portrayed a balanced before and after view of SMU football.
