New destination for Mike Leach?

Postby PonyPride » Sat Dec 18, 2010 12:29 am

This seems like a really odd fit, and it would be a shame to see a good coach and really good guy lose his job after getting to a bowl in a season in which many thought his team might not win more than a game or two.

He'd shake up the ACC a little, wouldn't he?

Not an odd fit at all. Maryland is always ok under Fridge. They had big years under him w/someone else's players early, and the program has grown stale since. A ceiling of 8 or 9 wins isn't enough anymore, especially when Under Armour's charter school is Maryland. Kevin Plank, UA's huncho, is an ex Terp player and on the board at Maryland. He & Leach couldn't be closer and Leach would have all of UAs football might at his back. Basically, UA & Maryland are so tied at the hip, they are going to make a play to be East coast Oregon. The way you do that is by striking while the iron is hot. One of the most aggressive moves I can remember by an 8-4 football team
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Saunders just said Leach was being targeted by Maryland. That would be a nice stop for him.
