University of Texas Player Jason Klotz charged

Texas senior center Jason Klotz has been charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly striking his girlfriend during an argument.

Klotz's girlfriend, Mona Rhodes, told Austin police they argued inside his car July 3. She said Klotz slapped her and punched her in the face and that she fought back.

An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest July 26, and Klotz turned himself in to police the next day. Klotz faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault with injury, punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine up to $4,000.

In a statement, Texas coach Rick Barnes said he would monitor the situation but did not say if Klotz faced discipline from within the basketball program.
